We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Mallory Lambert. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Mallory below.
Mallory, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
In 2018 I became a mother and was granted the opportunity to leave my dental job and be a stay-at-home mom. To earn a little extra money I decided to start offering meal prep from my home, but was quickly informed that wasn’t allowed in the state of Georgia but was told I could bake from home to sell with the correct licenses and permits. I knew nothing more than the basics of baking, but determined to keep moving forward, I learned. I spent hours researching recipes, watching YouTube tutorials, and loads of practice. Mal Nourished Bakery was formed as a play-on words by my husband and it quickly caught the attention of the public! Wanting to grow but not quite ready for a brick-and-mortar, I started the journey of creating a mobile bakery. My husband and I purchased a worn out 1970s horse trailer in early 2020 and began the restoration process. April 2021 it was ready to roll! Thankfully, my little mobile bakery caught the attention of many local businesses who continually allow me to setup for pop-up shops.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
My name is Mallory, the Mal behind Mal Nourished Bakery. From traditional desserts to dairy-free, sugar-free, gluten-friendly, and even Keto desserts, I’m happy to provide desserts for every walk of life! Desserts are baked by order for local pickup as well as traveling with the mobile bakery for private and public events, festivals, and local businesses. I’ve been so blessed to be booked by big and small businesses from corporate parties, teacher appreciation events, to birthday parties.
Alright – let’s talk about marketing or sales – do you have any fun stories about a risk you’ve taken or something else exciting on the sales and marketing side?
Soon after the mobile bakery was unveiled, I was asked to bake my biggest order by far— 1,000 desserts for a nearby school system to celebrate their teachers. I had never baked such a large quantity in such a short period but knew it was too good of an opportunity to turn down. I wasn’t sure how I would make it happen, but four days of nonstop baking and traveling to each school to deliver, I accomplished that task and was so proud at the end!
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think by genuinely caring about the products I offer I have built a positive reputation within my market and my community. I always believe in going the extra mile so everyone has a great experience with my business. It’s important to me that people remember I’m human and can and do make mistakes, but I will always work hard to rectify any hiccup to maintain a positive relationship with my customers!
