We recently connected with Mallory Kincaid Cassie Lopez and have shared our conversation below.
Mallory and Cassie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
We started Wild Social Micro Weddings a few months before the pandemic hit. We felt passionate about creating a new space in the wedding industry for smaller scale events that didn’t break the bank. We were heavily inspired by Mallory’s own wedding planning experience. She felt overwhelmed, stressed and pressured into pleasing everyone around her instead of focusing on the true meaning of the wedding itself. We’ve found that many recently married couples were experiencing the same regrets, spending too much money on people they didn’t even know. We help couple’s decide where they want to put the money they’re saving with a smaller guest list. All of our weddings are completely unique to the couple and customized to what they think is most important. Some couples go all out with a private chef, others have a pizza bar! We’ve mastered the art of micro weddings and our couples (and their families) are able to enjoy the moment without the wedding day blackout. Our mission is simple! Minimize your guest count and maximize the moment.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
We’re Mallory and Cassie! Best friend / biz partner duo and together we make up Wild Social Micro Weddings! Wild Social has created the sweetest space in the wedding industry. We are somewhere in between a traditional wedding and an elopement. The idea for Wild Social was born when we met as teachers in the copy room. We bonded over our burnout and immediately started brainstorming ways to leave education together! Cassie, who owns the Wandering Wagon, was already in the wedding space and Mallory had just recently got married. Mallory shared her struggles with wedding planning and all the ways she wished she would have done things differently. “A dinner with my closest friends and family, a bomb photographer, string lights and a mountain view, oh… and none of the wedding debt!” To this day, that is our blueprint for Wild Social. We’re helping couples simplify their planning process! We’re as stress- free as It gets in the world of weddings. We make up 7 vendors in one. We include full service planning, cake, cupcakes, floral, rentals, styling, bartending, coordinating, setup and teardown! We’re also the number one hype girls on the dance floor. Our mission is to make weddings fun! We want our couples to actually enjoy the moment while being present with their loved ones. We know we’re on the right path because we continue to attract amazing couples who fit exactly what our brand says. Intimate, meaningful, and entirely you. We recently quit our teaching jobs to take Wild Social full time and we could not be more excited about where we’re headed!
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
We have a strong presence on social media! We’ve always put a ton of our efforts into Instagram but we’ve recently started focusing heavily on Tiktok as well. We’ve built such a strong brand with our audience by being super authentic. We shared our experiences as teachers. We showed up every day on stories and talked about the struggles of building a business while working full time in one of the most demanding careers imaginable. We shared not only our wins, but also our hard days. Even when It felt hard to show up or like no one was even watching or listening, we still did it. Then we started posting on Tiktok and as luck would have It, we went viral! One of our videos reached over 1 million views. This catapulted us into more feeds and timelines and ultimately helped our business grow. We were able to share the magic of our micro weddings with over 20,000 Tiktok followers! We hear all the time from people that they feel like they know us or that they have been following us on our journey from the beginning. It’s such a complement to know that people are rooting for us!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
In the beginning of Wild Social we made a lot of mistakes, (as all business owners do!) and as cliche as It sounds, we wouldn’t have It any other way. Through trial and error and a lot of personal reflection on who we want to be as a business, we’ve come out so much stronger. Something we love about our business is that we are constantly thinking of ways to improve and grow. We both come from a background in education and use our teaching skills to evaluate our performance, look for ways we can streamline our processes, and create clear and concise communication with our couples and vendors. Our teaching skills show up A LOT in wedding planning, and we’re both so grateful for our time spent as teachers.
