Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mallory Howard. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Mallory thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
One of the things I’m most proud of with Creative Purpose is our “End It Movement Bracelets.” The End It Movement is a coalition of organizations that are actively fighting against human trafficking & other forms of modern day slavery around the world. Not only does 15% of each bracelet purchase goes to support the End It Movement, but each handmade bracelet is unique, representing the millions of unique individuals who have survived or are in need of rescuing. Each bracelet also has an “X” charm (a red “X” is the logo of the End It Movement) which can act as a conversation starter, leading to spreading awareness of this global crisis.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’ve always enjoyed getting to be creative & working with my hands – even as a little girl, arts & crafts was my favorite part of Vacation Bible School & tv shows like Out of the Box ignited my imagination. Throughout my childhood & teen years I had several ladies, each skilled in their own craft, mentor me & invest in me – both as a crafter & as a person. They each inspired & encouraged me to use the talents & passion God had given me, whether it was helping with arts & crafts at children’s camps or making gifts for people to put a smile on their face. Several years ago my sister, KaraBeth, encouraged me to take the next step & actually start a business. She agreed to partner with me in this endeavor & our goal from the beginning has been to bless people – those who purchase/receive our items as well as the ministries/organizations we support each month.
We offer a wide variety of handmade & customizable items, whether decorative (like our paintings & Christmas ornaments, etc.) or decorative & practical (like our clutches, & note cards, etc.) & we look forward to the new items/arts to come.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
From the beginning our goal has been to bless & encourage others. Every person has a purpose (whether they know what it is yet or not) & this is part of mine: to use my God-given talents & passion to help others & to bring glory to God. There’s more to life than just making a profit; we want to make a difference.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Creativity is meant to be shared. I’ve had the opportunity to lead or co-lead painting parties & card-making parties, teach kids how to make different kinds of bracelets, etc. Each experience has been so enjoyable – regardless of the number of people in attendance. Being able to teach someone a skill that they can use to bless others (& also teach others) is very rewarding. Creativity is how we express ourselves & can help us connect to others & that’s a beautiful thing to see.
