We were lucky to catch up with Mallory Bryce Jesser recently and have shared our conversation below.
Mallory Bryce, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s talk about innovation. What’s the most innovative thing you’ve done in your career?
I have been a freelance producer and content creator full-time for about three years now, and one of the main ways I was able to begin this career was by saying yes (even when I didn’t always know how it was going to work out) & being open to evolving quickly.
When I first started creating content, I was writing listicle style articles for Tastemade’s Snapchat Discover Channel. It was a really fun way to learn about how to keep viewers’ interest from the hook all the way through a story. Then Instagram Story takeovers became much more popular and I found myself creating slide-based video content for brands to help viewers virtually experience events, restaurants, cities, and more. With the launch of Reels and IGTV, I quickly jumped on-board this next wave to help brands create video-based content, and then eventually along came TikTok. With the emergence of each new type of media and/or platform, I was excited to test it out and experiment with different forms of storytelling. It can be a bit daunting, as it often feels like right when you master one medium, the next new thing pops up — but that’s also one of my favorite parts of being in digital media. It’s never boring and ever-changing!
Content creators are constantly innovating the art of social storytelling. As a producer & content creator myself, it’s my challenge to embrace these innovations and incorporate them into branded content in a way that is authentic and organic.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m a producer & content creator living in Los Angeles, California. Originally I’m from Palm Desert, California and studied Print & Digital Journalism (with a minor in Digital Arts) at the University of Southern California. After graduation, I moved to New York City to pursue modeling full-time, where I signed with Elite Models and also began freelance writing for Tastemade.
Working with Tastemade further unlocked my love for food and helped me grow as a social-first producer. I eventually began expanding the types of content I create (from short form video, to photography, to copywriting & more), and working with brands in the food, fashion, lifestyle & wellness spaces.
I started creating content for my personal TikTok (@sugarandbryce), where I have grown a community of 100k+ followers. I love posting recipes, taste tests, travel & lifestyle content, and have a love for all things dessert.
Recently I’ve been really excited about the cookie-related dessert product that I am creating & releasing to the world. It’s a meaningful project to me as it involves a family recipe and is a culmination of my love for dessert, baking, community & design.

Have you ever had to pivot?
The biggest career pivot I’ve had to make so far was my transition from modeling to content creating / producing. I had moved to New York City to try out modeling full-time (I had been modeling since I was 13 on a part-time basis) and found an apartment with two of my close childhood friends (shoutout Addi & Chloe!).
While it was overall a good experience and I am happy I did it, I eventually realized modeling full-time wasn’t for me. It was a big growth period, and I learned a lot about myself. I realized how much my career was tied to my identity at the time, it felt like two parts of my life were conflicting (modeling vs. freelancing in the food space). I ultimately dove head first into the food media world and never looked back!

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
The best source of new clients for me has been through my relationships with other work contacts + friends. When working on-set and with teams of people, one of my favorite parts is developing new relationships and collaborating. Often times, those connections have led me to other great opportunities. I love bringing people on-board cool projects, and am always so grateful when they do the same for me.
