We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Malissa Leonard. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Malissa below.
Malissa, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
The mission is to protect, prepare and prevent with teaching and equipping men, women and children with products and education. This resonates with me because as child I was taken advantage of. When I learned of Damsel in Defense I wanted everyone to about this company!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a single mom of two girls. So I know how important it is to teach your children about boundaries. Once I got into this business I wanted to take it a step further and I got certified as a self defense trainer last year. It definitely gives me the confidence in my teaching and speaking. I love speaking and teaching different groups. Real estate agents, sororities, girl and Boy Scout troops, moms groups etc.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I think the most effective way for me is getting out there and just talking about what you do. Speaking to groups, joining networks, talking to people at grocery stores etc.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Well during Covid, I think everyone had to pivot. Social Media became more important than ever. Having a game plan: a schedule of when and what to post etc and following up with people that you have meant to in the past.
