We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Malika Hamilton a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Malika, thanks for joining us today. Do you think folks should manage their own social media or hire a professional? What do you do?
I manage my own social media, but I do wish that I could trust someone as detailed, creative, and that just understands social media as much as I do. I have a problem with being consistent, but when I do post content it draws people in. As a creative, at times it is hard to get your creative juices flowing. So, that’s when the consistency starts to decrease. I suggest that if you can afford to hire someone who sees the vision of your business the way you see it, to run your social media or at least pick up where you lack. I’d really recommend it. People love social media and that’s how you’re going to get your customers and clients so do what you can or what works best for you.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am Malika the owner of a small business here in South Kansas City, Missouri by the name of Bare Beauty Essentials. Bare Beauty Essentials is here for all of full body waxing, skin, and body needs. I’ve been an esthetician officially for two years and I literally wouldn’t trade it for the world. The goal at Bare Beauty Essentials is to make every client feel comfortable and beautiful in their own skin. By making them feel beautiful in their own skin we always strive to treat and tend to the problems that the clients are having, come up with a plan, and get them feeling back confident. Rather that be the face or the body we treat it all. In house and on our website we have a full store of products from medical grade brands that I tested on myself and case studies for months before offering them to the public on our website. I also offer virtual consultations and in-house consultations, which I suggest before buying certain product.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
My audience has been built off the aesthetics of my page and the content that I make and post. I get so many compliments on how pleasing it is just to look at. I suck at remembering to take before and after pictures of my actual clients, but when I do remember and post them as well it builds trust with my audience to book with me. I say always stack up content to post so you never run out, schedule and plan post, save others posts for inspiration (not to copy), be personable, show your personality, engage with your audience, and most importantly BE CONSISTENT.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
My best source has been Instagram honestly. I post on other platforms too, but my Instagram has attracted most of my clients. Instagram is my go-to and I also engage there in the daily. It is also important to know who and where your target audience is.
