Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Malik Noir. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Malik, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Learning the craft is often a unique journey from every creative – we’d love to hear about your journey and if knowing what you know now, you would have done anything differently to speed up the learning process.
Yeah, nah, learning the craft can be incredibly painstaking, as just like any other art, music is a direct imitation of the creators perception/creative perspective of life. It’s all generated by that person’s experiences, and you can really feel it when an artist’s real life qualities shine through in the creative product. Now learning to mix the genuine expression of what you wish to convey with the practiced abilities of writing, production, freestyle, etc – that’s when your style of the craft is birthed. Now performing on the other hand, it goes hand-in-hand with the production of a piece, though it’s an entirely different beast on it’s own.
Malik, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Me? I try to push myself as kinda a representation of what I’m trying to accomplish with my craft. I’ve always directly identified with the art I put out, and music was essentially tied to my breathe. Words and melody were my life. Initially beginning with poetry, I began writing music and recording myself on random nights coming home from school. Constantly researching information about recording products and the music industry. As time went on I was blessed to be welcomed into Century22 (collective) and essentially mentored by great friend, as well as incredible lyricist Something New. He was actually who introduced me to the world of performing, and though we’ve formed our own paths he’s always been an amazing friend and artist.
Around 2020 began the inception of a spark conceptualized as R.E.V.O with fellow members Voltaire II, CASiMiRx, and J. Anthony. REVO is an acronym meaning “Revolutionary Entrepreneurs & Visionaries Only” and we’ve always worked to show and support exactly that. In 2021 when we began performing collectively with Bars Over Bars, it sparked a notion of how ready and willing almost everyone was for this movement to grow and expand. Unfortunately not every creative professional felt this way (which is a given, living in a state where athletics and finances are the main facets many consider worthy of any respect, praise or attention.)
We began to dive even more in the “rEvo” mindset by working with other organizations to curate our own events. That a big part of what I personally focus on aside from artistry and performance; event curation. Eventually, Voltaire II teamed up with producer SADIA, artist/engineer J. Prez, and artist/producer SOV to open a studio headquarters located in Peabody, MA – rEcreation Studios. All together, we continued raising the pressure with friend and booking manager, Kev Merkz of MerkzManagement, to continue spreading the idea of the revolution of the culture and the arts renaissance every where we go. Thanks to REVO, Arkh Zeus & E-Flat, Hustle Killer, Nim K, DJ Alcide, HeroTheEmcee and COUNTLESS other artists, promoters, and unsung creatives/future legends, unity and revolution and rapidly spreading throughout the state and beyond it’s borders.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Ecosystem was the perfect word, because what is not acknowledge in an ecosystem will either perish, or throw off the balance of said ecosystem. We will NOT perish. We don’t want power, we don’t everything in your pockets, we want the decency of respect that should be given to someone asked of their time and efforts. We work WITH, not for.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
In my view, life in first-person is about processing and really, really physically feeling the full effect of the experience you’re placed into. That’s the real meaning of “Live and Learn”. Being an artist/performer, the experience becomes so intense because as I said earlier, art imitates life, and life will really tell you how it feels about your art. Writing that song and getting a chill, an overemotional clump in your throat as you’re going over the lyrics in your head, lowlight recording, performing in front of a crowd, etc; all of it is a direct reaction to your energy and expression. When performing and the crowd is listening to every word you say or jumping up and down as high as possible, you really feel that and it feeds back into you energy and amplifies everything you’re doing even more. It’s what keeps us young, on our toes, connects up to reality, and provides such a euphoric relief, even in stress or sadness. 100% one of the most rewarding parts of being an artist/creative.
