We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Malik Griffith a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Malik , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Learning how to make instrumentals came with time and studying music to the degree I felt comfortable with. Knowing what I know now, I would could honestly say speeding up the process wouldn’t make sense. I take my time with the music, and other mediums I dive into to express myself. Getting better with time is key with me.
The skill I think are most essential is learning how to sample a record/sound. Knowing how to bend time within a song or recording is art form within itself. Studying and learning how to craft my own way of sampling has shaped the compositions I make today.
The obstacles that stood in the way for me was knowing that I was good honestly. Not exploring new frontiers of sounds, and staying in a shell. These days I feel like mad scientist, experimenting to a high degree while practicing and building compositions. Another tangent of that is not collaborating with anyone. That really stood in the way of me learning new music and having different experiences with likeminds. In the present day, I’m more open and willing to collaborate and build to highest the degree.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
To introduce myself, as you know my name is GRYFFYTH. I’m a producer and an abstract artist. Music has always been a staple in my life, whether it been though my childhood years or even now in the present. Being able to express yourself is a blessing and I’m glad I can be a vessel to the world. Through That Feel Records, we provided services to the community to be able to express themselves through music. We have the whole blueprint to make an album for any artist.
The factor that sets myself apart from another person is just that I’m myself wholeheartedly. I take pride in being an independent artist, and is willing to invest into my artistry to make a difference in the culture of hiphop.
I’m proud of the progression that TFR has been experiencing lately. As a collective, That Feel is moving gears and getting into the right situations. Organic is our game and we believe the support of the world will take us to new heights. We all we got.
That Feel Records has a lot of music coming this year, so stay tuned and keep ya mind open to the plethora of sounds and vibes to come. With myself, I have projects loading in the clip as we speak. Building the sound and experimenting is my main thing right now. Crafting my style and technique is key to being great.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
My Philosophy ranges from universal laws and metaphysical sciences. When it comes to entrepreneurship, learning from my mentors and astute family members that have business and financial literacy helped a lot throughout my life. Wealth is the game for me, my children’s children have to eat so it’s the long game.
Books that impacted me in my life so far are; The Richest Man in Babylon, Marcus Garvey, Message to the People, Dr. Claud Anderson Books on Financial Literacy. The Alchemist. The Bible.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I believe their is plenty of great platforms for artist and things of that nature. As a producer, I believe the underground scene needs to be jump started by producer showcases. Give the light for producer to shine because they are backbone to the music. Creating comfortable spaces for all artist to express themselves is the ultimate goal.
