Malik, appreciate you joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?

My mission as an artist is to establish a connection with people through my music. When people listen to my songs, I want them to say: Wow, I feel encouraged, I feel happy, I feel excited, I feel included. I create more than a song when I make beats and write lyrics, I create an energy, I create an entire world. I want my listeners to be included in that world. The people that support me should know that the world that I create is made for them to be a part of. I hope that when people hear my songs they take is as more than just a casual listen. I can only hope that they capture the moment and feel the vibe. When people hear me speak, they should know every word was planned. It took me time to write that down because I care about my representation. My mission is no more complicated than giving people positive energy. After i’m gone, my music will be all thats left of me, and I just hope that it has, and continues to have a positive impact on the world afterwards.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers

My name is “Leeko”, formerly known as “Malik The King”. I am an artist and producer from St. Louis. I am a part of the record label M.A.D.E. Music Group. As an artist, I think what sets me apart is my ambitions. I’m not just in this for money or popularity. I make music because its something I genuinely love. When I create things on my own volition, it’s my goal to have my music connect with people and hopefully give them some sort of positive energy. I’m most proud of how far i’ve come, despite the adversity of disbelief from others. I hope that I can inspire other to achieve their goals, just like how I look to achieve mine.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?

The most rewarding part of being an artist is knowing that you touched someone’s heart with your music. That’s my only goal. If I can inspire someone to keep moving forward when times are rough for them, or let someone know that they aren’t alone, even if I can encourage someone to dance in a party. Whatever it is, Its the best feeling to know that you’ve had a positive impact on other people.

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?

As an artist, or just a person in general, we receive hate from others that want to discourage us. Many people have told me what I can’t do. You can’t do this, you can’t do it like that, you cant. However, as an artist, I live in creativity, and I can’t allow people to place limits on what I produce. Thats what artist do, we create. If we allow other people to control or dictate our creativity, our narrative, we will never prosper as artist. We have to be allowed to construct our ideas despite the people that hate on you. Despite the people that don’t believe in you. Everyone will have something to say because everyone wants to place limits. You can’t allow others to place limits on your ability to manifest ideas into reality.
