We recently connected with Malia Carr and have shared our conversation below.
Malia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I think perseverance is important to success. Not everything is easy, I have had a lot of struggles when it comes to time management and decision making for the company. Starting out I had to work multiple jobs to make Spatique successful. It took a lot of time and energy out of me, but it paid off in the end.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I previously worked for Spatique and then left the company because I was planning on moving. The move did not work out so a few years later I ended up owning the company! I had nothing when I came into the company. I had to hurry up and find a space to do business in, get products to perform services, and get furniture for my treatment room. It was stressful because I started out with no money to put into the business. I was blessed by a friend who gave me money to get things started. I will forever be grateful to her for helping me. Spatique is a unique business because we offer Sugaring hair removal. For those that have not heard of sugaring, it is a natural and organic waxing alternative. Sugaring removes the hair from the follicle without causing hair breakage. You will begin to see hair thinning and diminishment with continual sugaring, you can not be burned or have skin removed with sugar, and some even say it hurts less than waxing! Besides sugaring, Spatique offers a variety of anti-aging facials such as, microcurrent (bio-lift facial), radio frequency, and HydraFacial, and acne clearing treatments. We also carry our own line of natural and organic skincare, and make up and magnetic eyelashes. I love helping people feel more confident in their own skin. I love working with guests to improve their appearance by helping treat signs of aging and blemishes. Spatique has expanded and now Nikki works a few days a week sugaring. She has some sugaring specials going on right now that can be viewed online at www.spatiqueskincare.com. Make sure you check those out and use the opportunity to try sugaring!
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Spatique prides itself in having a good guest experience. We treat our guests like close friends and build relationships with everyone who enters the treatment room. Good guest service has been the key to building our reputation and keeping our guests coming back. Google reviews have really helped gain new clients so I encourage any business to utilize that platform.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
One of the best ways I have grown clientele is word of mouth. Treat your guests well and they will be quick to tell their friends and family. I also found that Groupon can be helpful. Running in house specials also helped me gain new guests. For Spatique it has definitely been a combination of those three things that have gotten the business to where it is now.
