Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Malcom Cannariato. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Malcom, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I have been exercising my creative muscles since a young child. Before understanding how I wanted to place myself in this world, I wanted to be an Architect. I was fascinated with structures and sculpting reality. When I turned 15, music became a vital form of expression of ideas & emotions for me. I stuck with it, progressing to interning at a recording studio, to running my own Studio for 3 years. I was apart of this music collective ‘Da Blckhouse’ for a couple years. So much passion and memories were created with these genuine artists. At the height of working with this group, I felt my path was aligned to be in music & creativity. But it wasn’t truly till’ I honed in on myself, that I understood;
My creativity overflows into many forms of expression.
The ‘Umbrella’ of my ingenuity is Design.
Design in Sound, Optics, Texture, Structure, Garments, Technology, Appliance & Mechanisms.
I am devoting this life to the evolution of Design as beings on earth.
Designing with the intention of matrimony between Nature, Art, & Mankind

Malcom, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a Creative Leader that offers consultation, direction, and supervision on projects + ideas. However I prefer to be involved in all aspects of the project[s]. Not just directionally. I have background in:
Audio Engineering: Recording + Mixing. Focusing on both Sound Design and Album Curation.
Cinematography: Direction of photography. Mainly concentrating on how the story + visual is portrayed.
Design: I aim to design in all realms. Structural, Industrial, Technological, Mechanical, Graphic And Couture.
My overall mission in anything I do, is to share the beauty I see, in places most overlook. To make us comfortable with the uncomfortable. To bridge the gap between classes, races, sexes, & nations. To unify us under the notion that we are all humans, that are being. To inspire the kids to create what their hearts + minds desire.

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I aim to re-introduce the world through Design. Designing with the intention of matrimony between Nature, Art, & Mankind:
Structurally: Creating interrelation between Nature + Technology. Having spaces co-exist with the ways of nature. To replenish our natural resources, instead of abusing them.
Industrially: Creating ‘products’ that are functional, purposeful, as well as aesthetically tasteful. Based in the evolution of our species and steering away from convenience.
Technologically: Creating Software + Hardware compatible with Nature. Designing AI/Computer programs that assist our natural state as humans. Not replacing it.
Couture: Crafting clothing/shoes/fabrics with non-synthetic materials. Designing each piece purposefully, catering to our bodies original form. Expanding upon our natural anatomy.
Overall, I aim to steer away from convenience & mass production. Bring back rarity & sparsity. This is not to exclude people intentionally, [Via pricing, luxury, etc.] But to revive wonder & mystery in the world. If there were endless amount of copies of the Mona Lisa, would people travel all over the world to see it ?

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
August, 2020:
After finding my girlfriend of 4 years had cheated on me, I was devastated. I moved out from the place we shared, and opened my first Recording Studio. Since I made my decisions quickly, the studio also served as my living quarters. Fore’ I had no money saved up, and honestly, no plan but to immerse myself in music.
September 2020:
I was already working with this trio of artists ‘free blck.’ During the process of renovation, we contemplated a name for the studio. I went with “Da Blckhouse.” To play on words with how people view the “Whitehouse.” In time, it became the name of an 8 person group of artists that I worked closely with. After about 6 months or so, I was falling behind on rent. Once the owner of the building knew I was living there, as well as being late on rent. They decided that we needed to vacate.
February 2021:
After finding a new office/warehouse location at a storage facility, We felt it was perfect. Yet, We had to wait 3 months to get approval. So, thinking on my feet, I rented a small 10×10 storage unit and moved everything in. A temporary solution while we waited. I lived in that storage unit for those 3 months. My friend Nino would pull up, and we would record with the little space we had, surrounded by stacks of furniture and equipment. Eventually, The staff that operated the facility, discovered I was living there. Of course, they told me I can’t stay and I need to move out. Feeling overwhelmed, I asked if someone could take over my unit lease so I don’t lose my belongings. They approved. As I return to my unit to ponder my next move, I was surprised by the 2 associates from the front desk. They came to me with grace and told me I could continue living in my unit while I wait for approval. As long as I stay under the radar. The amount of joy & relief that came over me, I’ll never forget. At that moment I felt aligned in my life, and protected from above. These people only knew me for a couple weeks but felt moved enough to bless me.
April 2021:
A couple weeks before we got approved, still living in the unit. I had an accident occur. Me and a couple artist from “Da Blckhouse” were filming a music video. As we were leaving the location, I became lightheaded and blacked out. I hadn’t been eating much and was dehydrated. I woke up on the ground to my friend, Nino, yelling “Mal, you good ?!” Apparently I fell straight on my face and landed on the right side of my jaw. Causing a seizure and fracturing my jaw in 3 places. I had to undergo surgery and have my mouth wired shut for 2 months. That within itself was a huge eye opener for me.
May 2021:
I was living with my brother, at the time, while I healed from my accident. I remember the group was meeting in Dallas [Tx] for a mixing session at another studio. And it was a song that I produced. So needless to say, I was motivated to be there. I felt it was something I couldn’t miss. So fighting my body to get up from bed, I begged my sister to let me borrow her car. I drove an hour and a half away, mouth still wired shut, and freshly off of medication. But there isn’t any amount of pain or suffering that could take the joy of creativity away from me.
These memories serve as a reminder of the resilience and drive deeply rooted inside of myself. Each moment has prepared me to overcome any challenge. I reminisce over these memories among many others, to ground myself on why I keep moving forward.
