We were lucky to catch up with Malcolm & Britney Robinson recently and have shared our conversation below.

Malcolm & Britney, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Looking back at the decisions you made early in your career, particularly whether to join a firm or start your own, do you feel you made the right choice for that stage of your career?

Absolutely! One Son Creations was birthed from Malcolm’s passion for creating special moments through food. Malcolm has always carried a love for cooking and started to hone his baking skills because of his love for all things red velvet and my (Britney) major sweet tooth. What started out as just a hobby and opportunity to spread joy to friends and family all of a sudden turned more serious during a trip to New York. We were enjoying some gastro-tourism when we walked pass a bakery that had a line wrapped around the corner. Naturally, we stopped and joined the line to experience the hype. Only to our surprise, the dessert wasn’t very appetizing. In that moment, we gained the confidence to pursue baking as more than just a hobby. Soon after, we got our first cookie order for a corporate party.

The first years were slow and steady. Within the past few years, business has picked up with the introduction of our artisan ice cream in 2019 and purchase of our food trailer in 2022.

Most would probably say that they regret not starting sooner, but we have enjoyed the process of growing our business organically!

One Son Creations is a family-owned business that specializes in making tummies smile one sweet treat at a time! Malcolm Robinson is the founder and creative director at One Son Creations. Its inception stems from Malcolm’s love of creating special moments through food. Inspired by me (Britney) and his mother (Cheryl), Malcolm decided to pursue his passion and make more tummies smile by starting One Son Creations.

One Son Creations is THE destination for sweet treats. Specializing in gourmet cookies & artisan ice cream, we make our treats fresh to order to cater to your sweet tooth. We pride ourselves in coming up with creative flavors to satisfy your taste buds and add that special touch to your occasion . In the future, we look forward to expanding our business with the help of our two favorite taste-testers, daughters: Leighton & Leila. We also hope to open a location near Atlanta, Georgia that serves as a staple within our surrounding community.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

Our supporters are literally the backbone of our business! But we had to start with a quality product that they’d happily get behind once they experienced it. And that’s the secret to our success thus far: not compromising the quality of our product. Despite the fluctuations in food prices or the extensive manual labor it takes to create each batch by hand, we refuse to put out anything but the best for our supporters!

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?

Word of mouth. We have done very little marketing up until this point. But even as we increase our marketing efforts, word of mouth will still be king for the same reason that people will read countless reviews before purchasing a product. People love to support other people when someone has already done the vetting process for them so nothing is more powerful than getting that recommendation from a friend or co-worker or whomever! Plus, we love when a new client comes to us and tells us they heard about us from so and so and just had to come try our sweet treats!
