We recently connected with Malaysia Harrell and have shared our conversation below.
Malaysia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What sort of legacy are you hoping to build. What do you think people will say about you after you are gone, what do you hope to be remembered for?
When I reflect on my legacy, it’s about more than just what I leave behind—it’s about how many lives I touch and transform along the way. I hope my legacy will be one of empowerment, resilience, and spiritual transformation. I hope to be remembered for empowering others to live their most authentic, fulfilled lives. My journey, including a near-death experience in 2020, showed me that our greatest challenges often reveal our true purpose. I want to be remembered as someone who gave others permission to rise from their ashes, embrace their divine gifts, and live lives deeply aligned with their true selves.
Through Blissful Life Consulting, I am working toward a world where holistic well-being is a fundamental human right accessible to all. I want people to know that their resilience, joy, and purpose are within reach, no matter their circumstances. Helping people live authentically and reconnect with their deepest purpose is at the heart of everything I do. My work is not just about professional success but soul fulfillment—helping others find peace, alignment, and healing in every area of their lives.
In addition to this, I am dedicated to my role as a philanthropist, raising awareness for suicide prevention, particularly within the veteran community. This is a cause very close to my heart, and I want my legacy to reflect that I took action when it mattered most, giving hope and saving lives in moments of darkness. We are excited about our next charity event, where Blissful Life Consulting will co-host a mobile spa to honor and celebrate veteran women on November 13, 2024, in Washington, DC.
Ultimately, I want to be remembered for leading with compassion, making holistic healing and transformation accessible to all, and inspiring others to embrace their own light. If people can say that my work—whether through my book, my speaking engagements, or Blissful Life Consulting—helped them find their true path, overcome their struggles, and live in alignment with their highest potential, then I will have fulfilled my purpose. That’s the legacy I hope to leave.

Malaysia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My journey has been one of transformation, resilience, and purpose. I began my career as a licensed psychotherapist and board-certified clinical social worker. I have since founded Blissful Life Consulting, guiding people through holistic wellness, spiritual transformation, and mental health solutions. I’ve always been drawn to helping others align with their true purpose, especially those who may feel disconnected or burnt out, even after achieving traditional success.
But perhaps I am most proud of the opportunity I had to serve my country honorably for over twenty years. My military service shaped much of who I am today. It taught me resilience, leadership, and the power of community. That chapter of my life gave me a profound understanding of what it means to persevere in adversity, strengthening my calling to support others through their challenges.
The upcoming release of my book, ‘God Has My Six,’ reflects that journey—of not just my personal battles but of a greater story of faith, resilience, and overcoming. In the book, I share my experiences of finding faith through life’s darkest moments, and I hope to inspire readers who face life’s challenges. Whether it’s veterans, corporations, government, educational systems, high-achieving women, or anyone who’s faced adversity, I aim to show that their challenges are not the end of their story—they’re the beginning of something greater.
What sets me apart is my lived experience. Having undergone these transformations, I understand what it means to heal and rise. At Blissful Life Consulting, we combine holistic healing with helping clients achieve professional success and true inner alignment. I’m proud of our impact—whether it’s guiding women to embrace their divine purpose, supporting veterans in finding peace and healing, or providing wellness solutions to corporations.
What I want people to take away from my story is that we all have our hero’s journey. We face challenges but find our true strength in how we rise from them. Through my books, consulting work, and speaking engagements, I want to empower people to step fully into their purpose, live authentically, and create joy, resilience, and meaning-filled lives.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One of the most powerful lessons I had to unlearn was the idea of always putting “service before self.” Growing up, one of my favorite quotes was, “Ask not what your country can do for you—ask what you can do for your country.” In my 20 years of active-duty service, I lived by that principle, especially the United States Air Force’s core value: service before self and excellence in all we do. It’s what was ingrained in us from day one. You give everything for the mission, team, and country. And while that’s a beautiful ideal, it can come at a cost—especially when you forget that to serve others; you must first take care of yourself.
For years, I watched myself and others around me sacrifice personal wellness for the sake of service. We wore exhaustion like a badge of honor, pushing through burnout and ignoring the signs that our bodies and minds needed rest. It wasn’t until my body almost failed me that I realized how dangerous that mindset could be. I had to learn that service doesn’t mean self-neglect and that by not prioritizing our health, we risk losing the ability to serve altogether.
This was a lesson for me, and I now help my clients understand it. Whether you’re a leader, a corporate executive, a team member, or a veteran, many of us are conditioned to put others first and to sacrifice for the greater good. But the truth is, you can’t pour from an empty cup. If you don’t prioritize your own well-being, you won’t have the strength, energy, or mental clarity to be of real service to anyone.
And this lesson is for you. Maybe you’ve been pushing yourself to the brink—taking care of your family, excelling in your career, or supporting your community—without stopping to check in on yourself. It’s time to unlearn the idea that self-care is selfish. The greatest gift you can give the world is a healthy version of yourself. When you care for yourself, you can serve others from a place of strength and sustainability.
So, if there’s one thing I want the audience to take away, it’s this: you matter. Your well-being is essential to your ability to fulfill your purpose. Self-care isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity. You have to prioritize your health because when you thrive, everyone around you benefits.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been rooted in authenticity and connection. When I first launched the company in 2017, I knew building genuine relationships would be key. People aren’t just looking for services or products—they want to feel seen, heard, and understood. My clients often come to me when they’re ready for something deeper—when they’ve achieved external success but still feel a sense of emptiness or misalignment in their lives. Our ability to connect with them on a soul level sets us apart, helping them align with their divine purpose and rediscover their authentic selves.
One of the biggest growth strategies has been leveraging storytelling—sharing my journey through public speaking, networking, and social media. When I open up about my challenges, including my near-death experience and the process of realigning my life afterward, it resonates with people. They see themselves in my story, and that’s powerful. Vulnerability has allowed me to attract clients seeking that same level of transformation in their own lives. When people see someone who has walked through the fire and come out stronger, they know they can trust you to guide them through their journey.
Another key strategy has been creating a community. My work isn’t just transactional; it’s transformational. I focus on building a space where people feel supported and empowered through my social media platforms, live events, and speaking engagements. People want to feel like they’re part of something bigger than themselves, and when they feel connected to a community, they’re more likely to stay engaged and share their experiences with others. Word of mouth has been huge for me—happy clients who’ve experienced personal breakthroughs often become my biggest advocates.
Lastly, I’ve invested in my personal development and growth. It’s essential to continuously evolve, not just for myself but for the people I serve. By staying aligned with my purpose and expanding my expertise, I can offer clients the most up-to-date, relevant tools for their growth. That investment in myself naturally translates into better service for my clients, creating a ripple effect of growth.
The takeaway is that growing your clientele is about building trust, fostering community, and offering value. When you show up as your authentic self and provide something that truly transforms lives, people will not only seek you out but also share your work with others, creating organic growth.
