We recently connected with Makenzie Grier and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Makenzie, thanks for joining us today. Parents play a huge role in our development as youngsters and sometimes that impact follows us into adulthood and into our lives and careers. Looking back, what’s something you think you parents did right?
My parents set a great example for entrepreneurship because they are both private cooks so they know how to run their OWN business. This has impacted my life because they always stand by “ It’s best to work for your self” and i took that to heart and created my own business called “Mdessertbar”. Since I was young I have always had a passion for baking treats and pastry’s. I love having full creativity when making orders.

Makenzie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Makenzie and I am a 15yr old baker/pastry chef. I have an up and running business named “ Mdessertbar “. I started my business when I was 9yrs old. I have a deep passion for baking. What I love most about being baker is having full creativity and making my customers happy. My homemade cookies are my specialty. I offer chocolate covered treats, cookies, cakes, brownies and even a variety of french pastries. I am self taught. I attended Le Gargantua pastry school in France and learned how to make a variety of french pastry’s. As a full time student I am enrolled into a culinary cooking class at my school. I plan on opening my very own bakery after graduating college. My age and talent definitely sets me apart from others because you don’t see a lot of 15yrs as talented as me or even with a business already going. I am most proud of just having the talent to be so creative. I post my work on social media platforms; Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok ( mdessertbar ).

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my audience on social media by posting every single day. While being a full time student I sell and promote my treats everyday so posting on social media everyday gained more followers & clientele. Don’t be scared to post your content. A couple of views might not look great at the start but trust those couple of views are your future customers.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele is posting my content & word of mouth. When people see my work and know my age that gives them more than enough reasons to book with me. I love telling and showing people my work when we have pop up shops and love when new faces shop with me.
