We were lucky to catch up with Makel Hale recently and have shared our conversation below.
Makel, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
So it was about two years ago I was in a car accident my pick up truck spun out and that left me not being able to make it to work which resulted in me loosing the job. Also at the same time I was participating in many different art shows, fashion shows, along with hosting my own events 1-2 times a month. So once I lost the job instead of me looking for another job I just figured a way to do more events or sale more merchandise and book more tattoo appointments. I was able to maintain that for maybe about 6 months are so paying all my bills and maintaining. Everyday was not a walk in the park some days I was close to stopping and going back to a regular work life.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Makel I’m an creator from Saint Louis, MO. I’m a painter, tattoo artist, designer, and I restore shoes at times or customize them. With painting I paint a variety of things from older cartoons to different variations of abstract designs. I have been painting for over a decade mostly self taught. With tattooing I have been doing that for about 6 years now doing different ideas that my clients bring to me.I have been designing for about 4 years now and lately that has been my main focus lately. I have even made it to New York fashion week and showcased my clothing brand DAI in one the shows last year which is one of my biggest accomplishments with all the different things that I currently do.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
My most rewarding aspect of being creative is seeing others response to my creations rather it’s my paintings or clothes that I work on. Especially when they love it enough to add it to their collection.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
The best way society can support artist is sharing their post, liking post, following their pages to keep up with their art ventures, and if can afford their creations purchase them at full prices just like if go into the store to purchase that item you wanted.
