Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Makayla Godden. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Makayla, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. One deeply underappreciated facet of entrepreneurship is the kind of crazy stuff we have to deal with as business owners. Sometimes it’s crazy positive sometimes it’s crazy negative, but crazy experiences unite entrepreneurs regardless of industry. Can you share a crazy story with our readers?
I’ve been painting clothes for about 4 years now. One of my favorite stories would have to be when I was walking around at South Coast Plaza and an associate from a store came up to me. She asked me where I got my blazer (it was one I had hand-painted) a vintage white linen Ralph Lauren blazer with painted green faces all over it. She wanted to buy it right off my back, and I let her!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I created my clothing brand, Mak Made It because I wanted to share the importance of being our authentic selves. The clothing and accessories created are all one-of-a-kind, just like us. Instead of running away from that- we should run towards it. Embracing all that we are. I primarily paint faces on the clothing which represents just that. I’m most proud of this message because individuality is important. Once we’re able to love who we are fully, we’re able to love others fully.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Being my authentic self and not concerning myself with others opinions. Listening to my inner voice and creating from there.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
