Hi Makayah , thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
The story behind me mission is the feeling of luxury for the everyday woman. As woman we go through a lot from just “being”, the many expectations, and so much more. Every woman regardless of what our differences as individuals deserves to be pampers and have the feeling of experiencing luxury. What better way to experience luxury other than through beauty?
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I am a 24 year old Cosmetologist. I first became interested in the makeup industry at 14 and started my beauty journey from there. This year I finish cosmetology and now studying to expand my knowledge and experience in the beauty industry as much as possible. Opportunities are limitless for us young black women and that’s something I don’t want to take for granted.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
One of my favorite ways of getting my brand name Label Me Kissey out is having my own models. One quote I’ve heard a couple of times is “Make money doing something that you’d do for free.”Doing someone’s hair & makeup for free is my way of showing my talent by doing something I’m best at while showing my creativity and getting photos of my work out there.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn was that it’s never a waste to spend money on your brand. Rather it’s $10, $100, or $1000, it’s apart of the mission and will one day pay off. Even if it’s not visible to see right then. Trusting that God will multiply that makes it more comfortable with the thought that it’s always worth the investment!
