Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Majerly Figueroa-Reyes. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Majerly , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Naming anything – including a business – is so hard. Right? What’s the story behind how you came up with the name of your brand?
Boricua Style came to be because I am Puerto Rican. A Boricua is a “native of Puerto Rico or a person of Puerto Rican descent.” I am very proud to be Puerto Rican and love representing my country. A great way to achieve that is by naming my business just that. Another reason is that I always try to add some Puerto Rican style to everything I make- Rich and delicious flavors!

Majerly , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hello! My name is Majerly, and I am the Owner of Boricua Style. When I was younger, I was always in the Kitchen either with my grandma, mom, or aunt. They always guided me with what to do, which grew my love for cooking and baking. Years later, I still have that same love for it. Once 2020 hit, I made the big decision to start Boricua Style. The biggest reason for starting it was because I want others to be able to experience the taste of Puertorican pastries, cakes, and so much more! For those who have had it already, I want them to be able to have a taste of back home because here in Georgia, we don’t offer much of it. That is exactly what sets me aside from other businesses close to me. I can offer my customers just what they are missing! What I am most proud of is that I was able to get through the pandemic and still be able to keep my business going. I’d like potential clients and followers to know that my brand is 100% authentic. Everything is always fresh and homemade. Seasoned with the best ingredient, which is love!

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The best source of new clients has been my social media platforms, Facebook and Instagram.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
When I opened both social media platforms, I was scared that only a few people would follow me. I began asking my friends and family members to follow the pages, and I also told them to let other people know about it and repost it on their social media. I also used my personal social media platforms to let my followers know about it and follow along. After a couple of days, people began to follow, but it wasn’t enough! I decided to do a 50-follower giveaway of some of my products. In this giveaway, I just asked people to follow my account, like the giveaway post, and share the post on their stories, and for extra entries to the giveaway, they would have to tag two friends. With that said, I am glad to report that It was a success! After reaching my goal, I hoped to succeed again and did a 100-follower giveaway. I am also delighted to say that I achieved that goal. Some advice for those just starting to build their social media presence is that you should not give up on yourself so easily. Try to post as much as you possibly can to get your business out there and SEEN! Reels are the new IT thing on Facebook, and Instagram, so use them to your advantage. A little hint, People LOVE free stuff. Do giveaways, give to family and friends, and have them give to people they know. And let’s remember hashtags; use relevant words associated with your posts so that its’s easier to find within thousands of posts all around the internet. #smallbusiness #bakedwithlove #savannah,ga
