We were lucky to catch up with Maik Maravilla recently and have shared our conversation below.

Maik, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.

One of the most important projects I have done is collaboration with brands to create an illustration and a concept for a product or brand that already exists, which has been a great challenge. What has made me grow as an artist and professional illustrator is developing a campaign starting from a sketch, going on to create the illustration, and developing the whole image, which is one of the most rewarding things In addition to taking steps and fulfilling my goals of working with people I admire and being able to capture and leave something of my work in everything I do

Maik, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?

My name is Mario, aka Maik Maravilla, I’m a creative director, illustrator, graphic designer, and painter. I currently work as a digital marketing manager in a global industrial real estate company, I started drawing very young age, and then I practiced graffiti for many years, influenced by graffiti and skateboarding, I started to create my first illustrations, and then I studied a degree in graphic design at the university, I do illustration work for different clients, I paint with acrylic and I do ink drawing in the traditional way. in addition to creating toys, t-shirts, tote bags, caps, stickers and, prints. In addition, as I mentioned above, I work as a creative director, creating advertising campaigns, character development, branding, creating marketing strategies. One of the main challenges I face in my work is to effectively solve visual communication problems, and create a balance between the message and the medium, so one of my strengths is to be able to create an advertising campaign from start to finish, going from planning to the creation of graphic design and the development of illustration and characters.
One of the things I’m most proud of is what I’ve achieved with my work, the people I’ve been able to collaborate with, the projects I’ve developed, and, the experience I’ve accumulated over the years.
Something I want to say about myself and my work is that I like to get deep into each project and know as much as possible before starting to work on a campaign or illustration and I like to do it in the most professional way possible.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?

Being able to leave something positive in each of my creations, to generate something good in people to have new ways of being able to communicate something, and, to be able to do what I like the most to make a living

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?

All the information I received as a child, cartoons, movies, and especially the music I listened to at my parents’ house, the place where I grew up, the sea, seafood, and, my family, are things that always inspire me and are always present in my work.
