We were lucky to catch up with Mai Waller recently and have shared our conversation below.

Mai, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?

I was inspired to start the foundation after the years it took to recover from the loss of my son Mace in 2017 due to procedural complications during childbirth. After the loss of my son I was heartbroken to see my baby go straight to the NICU immediately following his birth. A week later, I was given the terrible news: Mace was brain dead, a result of the failed vacuum-assisted attempt to bring him into the world.

Our mission involves providing no cost doula support before, during and after pregnancy through our Doula Project Resource. Doulas are trained professionals who provide support, information and emotional and physical care during pregnancy, through childbirth and following birth. They also provide emotional and resourceful support in the event of infant loss or significant medical issues with a newborn.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

My name is Maiye Waller. I am a mother to two beautiful children and I am the founder of The Mace Anthony Williamson Foundation. I am a doula and I wish to serve my community members through exceptional care ad support!

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

A time where I’ve had to pivot in business is when I tried to move too fast! I was so passionate about my mission and it was so near and dear to my heart, that I would trust in others to help me get to where God had already predestined for me to be. That led to a lot of back peddling, confusion and mistrust in my industry. I pressed on and made amazing partners with like minds and helped to propel my mission in St. Petersburg.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?

I feel that putting myself in situations like networking events or different community events, helped me to connect with people in my city that would help me reach my goals and connect with my target market in a more efficient and effective way. Thus leading to a bigger impact with The Doula Project Resource.
