We were lucky to catch up with Mahogani Dee recently and have shared our conversation below.
Mahogani, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s jump right into the heart of things. Outsiders often think businesses or industries have much larger profit margins than they actually do – the reason is that outsiders are often unaware of the biggest challenges to profitability in various industries – what’s the biggest challenge to profitability in your industry?
As a content creator for over 10 years, I’ve never had the opportunity to be a full time creator. Over the years, the creator space has expanded and become overly saturated. With the ever changing algorithms and trends, being a part time creator puts me at a disadvantage. I’ll never use that as an excuse because I’m so grateful for the platform I do have. My community of supporters inspire me to continue to push for greater.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Mahogani. I’ve been in the content space for over 10 years. I started as a blogger who reviewed products that were popular and others I would recommend. I eventually migrated over to YouTube. This was for me to track my progress of teaching myself how to do my own makeup. As time has gone on and platforms were created, I expanded there as well.
My biggest accomplishment so far is collaborating with Scentcraft on a fragrance. My supporters really supported that collaboration. So much so that I’ll be releasing a second fragrance with them later this year.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I’ve built my community of supporters by being authentic to who I am. When I have connected with any of my supporters they all say how much they appreciate my authenticity. That’s something that is most important to me; to maintain a genuine connection with my audience.
My advice to creators is always be yourself. Don’t worry about being accepted, just be you.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I wouldn’t say this is a story but still showing up is what makes me resilient. I’ve seen so many creators come and go for numerous reasons. Being able to say I showed up in the best possible way is the best illustration of resilience to me.
