We were lucky to catch up with Mahaylee recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Mahaylee thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
There’s many things that go into being successful I believe but one of the main qualities to have is perseverance. Someone who always comes back swinging when life try’s to knock them down. On the road to success there is no telling what may come, so having the thought process of “no matter what I will not give up” will help tremendously.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I actually got into the industry when I was in high school and signed a year-long contract with Donna Baldwin but didn’t do much with it. I honestly didn’t have the confidence or drive/passion. So I went to UCCS (getting a Bachelor’s in Criminal Justice) and was diagnosed with leukemia when I was 22 years old, which was my jr year I believe. I graduated and am now three and a half years in remission!! I decided to get back into the industry about 8 months ago to see how I liked it and I ended up loving it!! Doing photo shoots, walking fashion shows, videography, especially meeting the people that I have met along the way brings me so much joy and I’m excited to see what the future hold!!
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My ultimate goal in life is to be happy and at peace, which is easier said than done sometimes. Modeling, creating, and meeting the people that I have met along the way has helped me to achieve that goal. I try to stay present and remember that nothing is permanent; when you’re down, the only way to go is up. It’s important to remember that it goes both ways though.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
I mentioned earlier that I was diagnosed with leukemia when I was 22 years old and with that came a lot of pivoting. The biggest shift for me was college, I went from in person classes to online while going through chemo and I am thankful for the support system that I had. Without them it would have been 10 times harder.
