Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Maharri. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Maharri, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
In the tangled skeins of my life, I found myself reborn in the US after migrating from the verdant expanse of rural Jamaica. Years blurred into each other until the stark reality of a lupus diagnosis interrupted my rhythm. In the heart of a bustling American lifestyle, Thousands of miles away from my native land, I felt disconnected from nature, and I believed this schism was at the root of my affliction.
Rather than follow the mapped route of prescribed medication for treatment, I turned towards the paths of holistic healing. Nature became my pharmacy, the wind my doctor, and the sun my nurse. My journey became one of resilience and awakening, of finding harmony in the disharmony, and becoming a self-healer. I was transformed.
My experience sparked a flame within me, a desire to ignite the same transformation in others. I envisioned a world where we could all learn the art of self-healing, and embarked on a mission to share holistic healing modalities.
In the fertile soil of my past, I found the seeds of my purpose. Raised in the embrace of the lush New Forest Valley in Jamaica, nestled at the foot of the majestic Capenters Mountain, I was always surrounded by nature. The rustle of leaves was my lullaby, the sweet tang of seasonal fruits my nourishment, the earth, my playground. I was born into a life tethered to nature, destined to live for a cause that embodied natural living. The lupus was not a curse, but a wake-up call, an activation that sent me on a journey to expand my consciousness, guided by the omnipresent Jah.
The path of self-discovery led me to create a bridge between the healing ways of my ancestors and the fast-paced, techno-centric world of today. This realization gave birth to my passion project, eco-conscious yoga wellness retreats (www.wellnessrebirthretreats.com). The retreats were imbued with the Rastafari ital ethos, a way of life that reveres purity and wellbeing, both for our bodies and for Mother Earth.
This was not just a venture for me; it was a movement. A revolution that aimed to steer our world back to its roots, to remind us of the healing power of nature and the debilitating effects of unsustainable lifestyles and practices. Through partnering with local charities, I expanded my mission, reaching out to educate about nutrition, lifestyle habits, and environmental practices.
I am not just a survivor; I am a warrior. My tale is not merely one of survival, but of triumph. Of how I turned adversity into purpose, pain into passion. I stand as testament to the power of natural living, of the Rastafari ital way, of holistic healing. My mission continues, and with each day, I am reborn. I am the Phoenix, rising from the ashes, forever reaching towards the sun.

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
I manage a team of healers which is slightly more delicate. Managing a team of healers requires a nuanced approach that respects their unique skills, empathic nature, and need for self-care. These are a few of my strategies, however, I am sure some of these strategies can be applied to team management overall :
Create a Safe and Nurturing Environment: Healers are often sensitive and empathic individuals. A work environment that promotes understanding, mutual respect, and open communication can make a significant difference. Encourage team members to share their thoughts, experiences, and challenges. This will foster a sense of belonging and mutual support.
Offer Continuous Learning Opportunities: To maintain their effectiveness, healers need to keep expanding their knowledge and refining their skills. Invest in their professional development by offering workshops, courses, and retreats that are relevant to their healing practices. This will not only improve their capabilities but also show that you value their contributions.
Promote Self-Care: Healers often prioritize others’ needs over their own. Encourage them to take care of themselves through regular breaks, meditation, exercise, and time off. Create a culture where self-care is valued and promoted.
Acknowledge Their Contributions: Recognize and appreciate your team’s efforts. Regularly express gratitude for their hard work and commitment. This can be done through personal acknowledgement, team celebrations, or recognition events.
Provide Clear Direction and Leadership: Set clear expectations for your team and provide supportive leadership. Share the company’s mission and vision, and explain how each team member’s work contributes to these goals. This will give them a sense of purpose and direction.
Encourage Collaboration: Foster a culture of teamwork and collaboration. Facilitate opportunities for team members to work together, learn from each other, and build strong relationships. This can increase morale and productivity.
Manage Workloads: Ensure that workloads are manageable and evenly distributed. Overworked healers may experience burnout, which can affect their wellbeing and the quality of their work.
By prioritizing these strategies, I create a positive, supportive work environment where healers feel valued, supported, and inspired.
Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Absolutely, my perspective on management and entrepreneurship has been shaped by several powerful books that have left an indelible mark on my thinking and philosophy.
One of these is “15 Commitments of Conscious Leadership” by Jim Dethmer, Diana Chapman, and Kaley Warner Klemp. This book fundamentally shifted my understanding of leadership. It encouraged me to lead from a place of deep self-awareness and authenticity, and to foster a culture of conscious responsibility within my team. This consciousness-centric approach has allowed me to nurture a collaborative and empowering work environment.
“The Big Leap” by Gay Hendricks has also had a profound impact on my entrepreneurial journey. Hendricks speaks about the concept of ‘Upper Limit Problems’ and the fear that often accompanies success. This book inspired me to break past my self-imposed limitations and boldly pursue my full potential, a philosophy I’ve strived to embed in my business ethos.
Napoleon Hill’s “Think and Grow Rich” has been instrumental in shaping my approach towards goal setting and personal achievement. Hill’s insights into the power of a strong desire, faith, and persistence resonated deeply with me, encouraging me to apply these principles to my management style and business strategy.
“Who Moved My Cheese” by Dr. Spencer Johnson, a simple yet profound parable about change, has helped me understand the importance of agility and adaptability in business. It has guided me to embrace change as an inevitable and beneficial part of growth.
“The Present” by Spencer Johnson, through its beautiful narrative, has taught me to focus on the ‘now’. This has not only made me a more mindful leader but also has helped me manage stress and make better decisions.
Lastly, “Rich Dad, Poor Dad” by Robert Kiyosaki was a game-changer for me. It transformed my views on money, investing, and financial independence. It led me to approach entrepreneurship as not just a means of generating income, but also as a vehicle for creating long-term wealth and financial freedom.
In essence, these books have played a significant role in shaping my leadership style and entrepreneurial mindset. Each of them has provided valuable insights that I continue to apply in my day-to-day operations and strategic planning.
