We recently connected with Maggie Miller and have shared our conversation below.
Maggie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We love asking folks what they would do differently if they were starting today – how they would speed up the process, etc. We’d love to hear how you would set everything up if you were to start from step 1 today.
The biggest thing I come back to time and time again is how I would certainly have more confidence from the start to pursue my dreams. A lot of the set back and headache that goes into changing your career or starting a business comes from being too scared to start. Constantly living with the feeling that something may go wrong or you may fail hinders your ability to grow. If I were starting over I would be sure to gain more confidence and assurance that I’m doing the right thing and the best thing for me.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I graduated college with a Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences. I am now a Social Media Manager, Content Creator, and soon-to-be small business owner. How do these things correlate? For me, essentially, not at all. I knew sooner after graduating I wanted to be in a more business-structured environment. I worked in sales and, eventually, marketing and found my way into social media content creation. I was able to land a full-time social media manager role at a local corporate company from the skills I learned on my own. I put hard work and dedication into learning all that I could about social media, the algorithm, trends, video, and photo editing, public speaking, etc.
The extra time I put in on my off hours and days off into watching Youtube videos and Skillshare classes to learn how the marketing world works eventually paid off. I have been a Social Media Manager for over a year now and have been freelancing content creation for brands and other companies for 3 years. I am extremely thankful for those who believed in me and gave me a chance despite not having the aligned education.
The biggest thing I can say about my 5 years out of college is that experience, willingness to learn, and dedication to your passion will get you farther than you think!

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Building my social media presence for my personal brand definitely helped me get my foot in the door for a corporate marketing position. I had tangible results to show my knowledge of marketing and social media. The biggest piece of advice for those trying to build their following is not to give up and remain consistent. Remain consistent through the highs and lows, through the cringe, and through the viral videos. Consistency is the biggest key for social media.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I love working in a creative field because there is more meaning behind what I am doing. I don’t feel like another cog in the machine of corporate America. All the creative ideas I bring to the table are unique to me, and that is an extremely rewarding feeling.
