We recently connected with Maggie McCoy and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Maggie, thanks for joining us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
I feel like my entire practice is rooted in being different than the industry standard-haha. In fact, that is the purpose of TÈRME!! You will discover very quickly that I’m not your average esthetician: I love the sun, hardly ever wear spf, prefer simple skincare regimens, believe skincare starts with food, fascia release is the best form of graceful aging and so on!! Although “Holistic” may be trending right now, I don’t actually see a lot of true holistic esthetic practices. Holistic is defined by “dealing with or treating the whole of something or someone and not just part.” That means that I am looking at every aspect of your life when we are talking about your skin health. I want to know your diet, your sleep habits, your Sun exposure, your hydration levels, your supplement stack, your skincare, your thought patterns, your emotional practices, your movement levels—literally everything—you live it, I want to know it. These things all play a massive role in the health of your skin. I see the word holistic getting thrown in front of everything these days as a trend instead of the all encompassing approach that it really is and I’m here to change that. At TÈRME we talk whole body wellness to achieve your best skin yet. This not only gives you the lasting results that you’ve been looking for, but it also helps you build practices for yourself in a profound and intentional way!!

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Growing up, I always knew I wanted to be in the beauty industry, it always fascinated me and gave me an outlet to let my creative mind flow. In 2018, I decided I wanted to become a makeup artist; but, I knew I wanted to have a background in skincare to pair with my MUA certification, so I went to school for esthetics in Missouri, where I am from. In school, I immediately realized that I had a deep passion for helping people feel good in their skin, find answers to their skin health problems, and find peace and comfort within their bodies and lives.
One year later, I was completing school and embarking upon this new chapter of esthetics. I started working in more medical-based esthetics and waxing before discovering my passion for holistic esthetics. I was able to use my experience and knowledge from growing up in a very holistic-minded family, as well as continued education in facial massage techniques, gua sha, ingredient knowledge, reflexology and fascia work, to easily transition from medical to holistic.
I worked for a few places but constantly found that it was always all about the money, not the people. Thus, I took some time off to figure out how I wanted to move forward in the industry, or if I EVEN wanted to be involved in an industry that, in my opinion, exploits people’s (especially women’s) desire to stay youthful or look a certain way by selling them products excessively and recklessly (AKA product pushers). After deep consideration, I did something I never expected to do: I opened TÈRME Holistic Esthetics, a place people can come to feel seen and heard and to embrace the beauty that God put in each of us.
Multitudes of firsthand experience, backed by the scientific literature, forged my belief that skin health begins from within: sleep, nutrition, gut health and nervous system health. At TÈRME, I use a holistic (whole body) approach that allows you to embrace and understand what your skin is communicating–because it will always tell the truth. I work with the nervous system to help it move into a parasympathetic state; from there, the body begins to give us answers. My facials are extremely massage centric, from facial massage to scalp and upper body massage. This helps to lift, sculpt and release the fascia that is compressed and therefore not properly flowing. I work from an apothecary backbar which allows me to truly customize your skincare from appointment to appointment. Working with single ingredients also means less preservatives and emulsifiers, keeping the products I work with as pure as possible. I always tell clients that I want to help support your skin, not control it. Our system is divinely made and each signal and response is there for a reason–we don’t want to turn those off, we just want to make sure everything is firing properly. I truly believe less is more when it comes to home care which my clients love!
My passion for people and for helping people understand their bodies and its needs has grown so much since opening TÈRME. I am so grateful to the Lord for giving me this desire and opportunity to work with each beautiful soul who walks through the doors of TÈRME. TÈRME has been, and will always be, a sanctuary where people can let down the walls of their body, mind and soul and just “be” – be cared for, cherished and accepted for all that they are.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I strongly believe that when we step out and show up as our authentic self, it not only helps the right people to find us, but it allows our creativity, our soul and our purpose to flow through the practices and through the relationships we build with our guests.
It can be hard to set yourself apart in the beauty industry; so many people are doing the same things or have a desire to be like someone else. When we get back to the root of it all, we are reminded that God made each of us with our own unique patterns and ideas. When we lean into these differences and embrace them, the world blooms with so much more beauty and abundance.
As cliche as it may sound, always be yourself—you are your own super power within your business. When I embrace who God made me, as a holistic esthetician, that is when everything falls right into place.
Another thing that I believe helped me build my reputation is my dedication and desire to always be a student. The human body is a complex and powerful vessel and there is so much to learn and love about it. By allowing myself to always be a student, I have learned so much about the body. Things such as nutrition, fascia, massage, reflexology, sound therapy, prayer, energy/frequency therapy, emotional health —the list goes on and on. This has allowed me to step into my deep passion of helping people feel good in their bodies, have radiant skin and always leave my studio feeling reborn.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has, by far, been finding like-minded individuals who share in my passion for holistic health, organic skincare and are willing to put the time and effort into their lives.
When I opened TÈRME, I realized that my life and my business could all flow together beautifully. When you live a holistic lifestyle and you own a holistic skincare studio, it’s not hard to find the right balance because it all just goes together. By creating this dynamic, I have opened a door that allows me to meet clients everywhere I turn. I love working with people who enjoy pouring into themselves and look at skin health from the inside out. A lot of the places I go and events I attend are an extension of my lifestyle so I’m always meeting like-minded souls! If you spend your time doing what you love, it will weave the right people into your life!
