We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Maggie Mae a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Maggie, thanks for joining us today. Risk taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
In 2014 I decided to relocate to Eureka Springs AR from Denver CO. I was ready for a change in lifestyle. Going from a city of 700K to one of 2K was a huge change and allowed me to open Blossom Beauty. I’ve always loved styling hair and doing makeup and a traditional cut and color salon just wasn’t for me. When I opened Blossom Beauty I figured the wedding hair and makeup market would be over saturated since Eureka Springs is the “wedding capital of the south”. But I quickly found my niche in proving luxury, on-location wedding hair and makeup services. I’ve loved every minute of it (even the difficult parts). Since adding my first assisting beauty artist in 2016 the team of artists has grown to seven and we are able to serve over 100 brides per year.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
At Blossom Beauty we are your team of on location wedding hair and makeup artists. Located in the heart of Eureka Springs we serve Northwest Arkansas, Southwest Missouri and your desired destination.
I’ve always had a passion for the beauty industry. In fact, I’ve been playing bathroom beauty salon since I was three years old. I decided to make it official in 2011 and attended the Aveda Institute Denver where I graduated with honors.
There have been many experiences that have shaped me as an artist but two stick out in my mind. The first was working New York Fashion week under iconic stylist Jon Reymen. The second was a haircut I received while on vacation. The cut was amazing and the experience changed my life…seems a little silly right? But it’s how Blossom Beauty was born.
You see, I’m a natural performer and I love a great production. I’ve been on stage as a dancer and an actress since I was a child. To me, there’s nothing better than the pre-performance anticipation, rush of the show and bright lights. That haircut that changed my life…it was a production, the stylist was the producer and I left feeling like a million dollar star.
Weddings are a production in themselves and I absolutely love styling and makeup. I want you to feel like a million bucks on your wedding day!
I do that by creating a look that feels like the best version of yourself. I take it super serious but have so much fun in the process. It is, after all, one of the most important days of a brides life. And all my years in the theater make everything go off without a hitch.
I’ve selected a team of artists that I would trust on my wedding day! We can handle wedding parties, large or small. And on location services help keep everything relaxed, calm and beautiful.
Wedding day beauty isn’t just about pretty hair and makeup! It’s about the entire experience….and with us, that begins immediately! From the moment a bride reaches out I’ll be her one and only point of contact which means that nothing ever gets lost in the conversation. And my EXCLUSIVE beauty guides will help brides prep for the day-of like a pro. Our booking process is designed to be as simple as possible with a la carte services to allow you to customize your experience.
Whether on-location at the venue or in our naturally-lit studio space a luxurious, stress-free and organized experience awaits you.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
My reputation is literally the most important thing I have in my business. I’ve built it and kept it strong by honoring my obligations, having stringent standards and holding myself accountable. I’ve been able to make all of that possible through my presence in the community and my relationships with other wedding vendors. Along with the relationships I build with brides throughout the wedding beauty process. For us, it’s not just about the hair and makeup on the wedding day. It’s the entire experience that a bride has with us. That is why I am in continued communication with my brides. They never have to wonder what is happening or what they need to do on their end. I use video guides, my Exclusive Beauty Planning Guide, Perfect Bridal Trial Guide and client portal to make sure they are always in the know.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
For me it’s still a little old fashioned…my relationships with other wedding vendors is one of my number one sources for referrals and bookings. Beyond that I have a strong presence on Instagram and Google and The Knot and Wedding Wire.
