Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Maggie Lowry. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Maggie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to hear the story behind how you got your first job in field that you currently practice in.
My first job was in the field, a field of garlic. I grew up in the country growing and selling fresh produce and flowers at local farmers markets and natural food markets in the PNW. It felt very much a way of life and how my family and I spent our seasons on the farm. It was always a lot of work and yet I dreamed of a life that would allow me the freedom to live within natures abundance. The trick was figuring out what I could do to make a living that would incorporate working with plants and holistic wellness.
Maggie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I can feel the defining moments of having the intuition from a young age and to follow my path of botanical medicine, nurtrition, working with my hands, and overall holistic health. It has created the person that I am today. After working on several diverse farms and businesses throughout my career, I have come to envision Sol Blends as a farm-to-product experience.
I’m very proud to have the vision and dream of creating products that are formulated with good intention for a healthy non-toxic option. I feel this is vital for our existence and for generations to understand the importance of what we are putting on our bodies as well as what goes into our bodies.
We are a small business with a lot of passion and need the support of people like you to help make a difference in the world today.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One of the biggest lessons I continue to learn to this day is the financial aspect of owning a business. It’s crucial to strike a balance between providing high-quality plant medicine products and ensuring the sustainability and profitability of Sol Blends. This requires careful financial planning, cost analysis, and strategic decision-making. Having a childhood of unknown circumstances mostly centered around financial insecurity and seasonal work has been a struggle, but it has also fueled my determination to create a business that not only connects people to the magic of plant medicine but also provides a stable and prosperous future for my family and future generations. By prioritizing both the holistic aspect of plant medicine and the financial sustainability of Sol Blends, we aim to continue a business that is not only successful but also deeply rooted in the values of integrity and wellness.. When orders are slow and overhead is getting more and more expensive and the 9:00am to 5:00pm job looks enticing, it’s time for a pep talk. This is business. Having that clarity to recognize what those boundaries look like and how to navigate the unknown is critical. Believing in the outcome and looking at our journey definitely helps when I’m needing inspiration and to know our “WHY” is key. Is it time to pivot or is it time to be braver than you’ve ever been and take that chance to continue on? So far, doors have been opening and I’m so thankful for that. Believe in yourself and keep going…
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for growing my clientele has been reaching out to friends and companies that align with similar values, sharing a passion for health and wellbeing. Creating a solution for people and providing products that create real results that stand out with integrity. Honestly, I reach out and connect with so many people and you get a lot of “No’s”. This can feel defeating as many business owners can relate to. New ideas and new game plans are always on the horizon. Feel it, own it, and continue to reach out and someone will have a yes for you eventually. Most importantly take care of yourself so you’re able to be at the top of your game in your life and business that you are creating. Take walks, make time for self care, find your balance.
