We recently connected with Maggie Lin and have shared our conversation below.
Maggie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
I got my first client from my best friends. They really trust me and my hands because I was always great at makeup. I was that friend in the group that everyone would go to when they needed help with makeup or hair.
When I came back from my training, I posted on my stories, on Instagram to see who would be interested in getting their brows tattooed by me and without hesitation my friends swiped up and volunteered.
I charge very cheap for them and used them as the forefront of my business ads and promotions. Their results helped me get more business. Im super grateful!
Maggie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
In October 2019, I flew to China to learn permanent makeup and lash extensions, eager to start my journey in the beauty industry. By 2020, I launched my own beauty business, but when quarantine hit, everything came to a halt. Like many others, I struggled mentally during that time. I even tried applying for remote part-time jobs, but nothing worked out. Looking back, I see it as a sign—it was time to focus on my craft and invest in myself.
Despite the challenges, I poured my energy into perfecting my skills. Year after year, I saw my work improve. But this didn’t happen by chance—I sacrificed nights out, skipped parties, and put every dollar I earned back into training and supplies. I even used my stipends to invest in one of the most expensive lash trainings available at the time. I flew to Miami for an intense two-day course with Lash Makers, determined to reach the next level.
As my skills improved, I expected my income to reflect that, but for some reason, I wasn’t making what I wanted. My yearly income was around $45,000, and I knew I was capable of more. That’s when I decided to invest in myself again—this time by hiring a business coach and joining a mentorship program. That decision changed everything.
In 2023, I hit my first $10K+ month, and from there, I kept surpassing my own goals. I finally reached six figures, and the feeling was indescribable. I wasn’t just transforming my clients’ lives—I had changed my own.
Procrastination was never an option. Motivation wasn’t something I relied on—I built discipline. I set goals, met them, and only rewarded myself once I truly felt I earned it. That year, I bought my first designer piece from Chanel. For the first time, I didn’t have to check my bank account before making a purchase because I knew money was always flowing in.
Now, in 2025, I’ve worked with over 800 clients, trained multiple students, and am expanding my reach by launching more courses. I’m also building my online lash supply store, taking my business to the next level. My goal is to continue teaching, inspiring, and supporting other women on their entrepreneurial journeys in the beauty industry. No matter how far I go, I’ll always remain a student—hungry to learn, grow, and achieve more.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience on social media with $0—just consistency and strategy. The key? Truly understanding your ideal client. Visualize her: What is she wearing? What does she drive? Where does she live? What’s her career, and what are her interests? The more clarity you have, the easier it becomes to attract her through intentional marketing.
You need to show up as the woman she’d love to connect with. The best way to attract your dream clients? Become the best version of yourself. Show up as the upgraded IT GIRL—confident, consistent, and engaging. Get creative, post weekly, and talk to your audience daily through stories. Stay relevant. Instead of seeing social media as a chore, shift your mindset: It’s a free platform where you can market your business to the world. Tell yourself, “I GET to do this for free,” and watch how your energy changes.
If you’re ready to take your bookings and brand growth to the next level, I’ve created an eBook that shows you exactly how to attract clients and grow organically—without spending a dime on ads! It’s only $49, making it super affordable because I want it to be accessible to everyone.
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
The best way to keep in touch with clients? Treat them like a friend—literally. Of course, boundaries are important, but that doesn’t mean you have to maintain a stiff, overly professional tone. People connect with authenticity, so show up as the best version of you.
Talk to your clients like you’re catching up with a friend. Make them feel like they’re already part of your circle. Don’t be afraid to be vulnerable—it creates a warm, intimate space that makes people feel valued. When clients feel that connection, they become loyal to you—not just your service. What truly sets you apart from others in the industry is you. No one can replicate your energy, personality, or the experience you provide. That’s why your brand should be an extension of who you are.
Now, you might be wondering—how do I set boundaries while still keeping it personal? Simple: put systems in place to protect your time.
Require deposits to secure appointments. Make sure the amount is high enough to cover your time if they cancel or no-show.
Follow up with every new client after their appointment. Check in to see if they’re happy with their results. If they are, ask for a review and post it on social media to attract more clients.
Rebook their next appointment before they leave. This helps with client retention and keeps your books full.
Building a strong, loyal clientele isn’t just about skill—it’s about connection. Make your clients feel seen, valued, and excited to come back, and you’ll build a business that thrives.
