We recently connected with Maggie Lee and have shared our conversation below.
Maggie, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
No l don’t actually, I strongly believe that you can start whatever you want to do at any point in your life. Sure, it could be nice to start things but we have so much time, truly. And I’m going to enjoy that time and be grateful I’m doing it now, instead of wishing I did it sooner. I love what I do, and the experiences I have made (good and bad) cement just how much I enjoy art, the pop ups and being involved and around other creatives!
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m an artist, mostly digital, but I enjoy more traditional forms of art as well. I create and sell prints, with some original paintings, around the Denver metro area at pop ups and the like. I love art, and I’m currently working towards being a tattoo artist! I’m getting there and that’s all ill say about that and have things going on behind the scene. I’ve been creating for as long as I can remember but actively started participating in my community recently on the last couple of years. All thanks to an amazing tattoo artist, Stevie (stoneycoldstevieaustin on instagram), inviting me to participate in a madelife pop up and the rest is history. Everyone is unique, even with our similarities! We all have something to bring to the table and I believe that to be true for myself. So I’m Hal’s there’s people out there to enjoy my art!

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
It’s really just about supporting small or local. Corporations I feel have a big hold on things, and it can be suffocating for the artist, and the buyers but when you shop small or local it has a big impact on whoever you buy from. Not to mention everything else that goes with it. You have a community, and so much more care goes into these pieces of art whether it’s prints, pottery, photography etc. It really fosters a creative ecosystem in the sense of good experiences, connecting and having care in knowing you shopped in away that impacts the greater good, instead of contributing to big businesses that don’t have your best interest, or the worlds best interest, at heart.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The people. 100% the people. It’s one of the main reasons I mostly do pop-ups and don’t really sell online besides every once in awhile. I absolutely adore everyone I meet and have met some really great people through pop ups. To hear people talk about your art or want it is so rewarding, and seeing the other artists there too is great! (I never knew about art trades until I went to my first one, it’s so fun!!) I love people, I love their stories, I love their kindness, and it’s so incredibly rewarding in a way that’s hard to describe.
