We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Maggie Judge a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Maggie , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What do you think Corporate America gets wrong in your industry?
Digital marketing is one of the most powerful tools for promoting your business, capture new leads and eventually turn those leads into sales. But all of this is possible only if you know how to use digital marketing efficiently.
Many marketers don’t get the desired result despite their best efforts. I believe the biggest reason for this is lack of follow up. Especially for the start up world, funds are very tight, so spending money to pay someone to chat on social media seems pointless. However, in reality this is extremely crucial.
Most companies believe posting sporadically is sufficient, and it is not. For every social media post, one hour of follow up, to include customer engagement on your business pages as well as other feeds, is crucial. This simple action will be sure to increase your analytics and grow your market. After all it is called “Social” media. So be social!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
As a nurse, I loved working bedside in labor and delivery, and hospice but I truly felt my greatest skills were not being fully utilized. I see the world differently, can connect dots that others do not see, and am great at operations and building and leading teams.
During my time as a nurse, I won a free boudoir session from a local photographer. When the photos were released, I had such an overwhelming response on social media, I thought I would take a chance and apply with a modelling agency. To my surprise, I was offered a contract with Neal Hamil.
Since then, I’ve grown an Instagram following of over 78,000 loyal fans and over 800,000 on Facebook, and worked contracts with several notable designers as well as international magazine covers.
So when I lost my job as an oncall hospice nurse during the Covid pandemic, I decided to go after what I really wanted. I wanted to take what I learned from building my social media, and use it to help others.
So I accepted an offer with a start up medical company as a clinical liaison. Within 4 months I was promoted to their director of operations for their Remote Patient Monitoring vertical.
Within 3 months the team and I had done incredible things! Basically we revamped the entire company and launched 4 more verticals and tripled our census.
It was a terrifying moment. Either I would sink or soar. And we soared!
This led me to my current position of VP of Digital Marketing & Customer Relations for Ergosuture.
The current mission of ErgoSuture is to drive surgical innovations through the design and development of advanced suturing systems. The long-term vision of ErgoSuture is to deliver comprehensive and accessible surgical solutions beyond suturing systems that become global standards of care. Enabling surgeons to perform quicker, safer, and more effectively.
It is rare to find a marketer with real life medical training and our CEO Claude Nogard, really understood this. He has really taken the time to develop and grow all of us professionally. I am truly honored to work for such a powerful and innovative team!
Through this development I have also launched TheJudgeMaggie Creative Studios, where I can help assist small start ups on the importance of Digital Marketing. Our official launch was May 1st 2022!!
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Growing up where I did, school wasn’t a main priority. I dropped out of high school my senior year (after being sexually assaulted by a fellow student) and it was no big deal to those around me.
But I knew I wanted more. I needed more. I did get my GED and then enrolled in college.
I was the first person on both of my family, cousins, aunts, uncles, to go to college.
I married young and had kids with a man who was abusive, but I persisted. My 4th daughter was born 5 days before my last semester of nursing school started. I was back at school when she was 2 weeks old.
The faculty was so afraid I was going to fail state boards that they charged me of plagiarism twice! Both times I sat for the academic board and proved my innocence. I won. Then I passed state nursing boards with a perfect score.
The day I found out, I left my now ex husband. That was almost 8 years ago.
Since then, I have spent every moment healing past traumas, and letting the woman of honor that lives inside of me, come alive. It has not been and easy journey, but every minute of the fight was worth it to end up where I am now, spiritually, mentally, and professionally.
Never stop fighting. Your soul deserves to shine.
How do you keep your team’s morale high?
My motto is to be the person that when anyone is around you, they feel they are the best version of themselves. This is even more important as a leader.
We see a lot, that people are left to abandon their originality due to the pressures of conformity. And in no greater situation do we see this dynamic, than with a “manager” and “employee”. This stifles creativity and ingenuity.
By allowing people to feel genuinely safe and appreciated while in your presence, you empower them to be the best version of themselves! Building your career with a company who fights for your individuality and embraces your weirdness; that separates you from all the rest, is such a powerful work culture.
As a leader, this isn’t always easy to do. It requires you to heal your wounds while continuously working on your own mental, professional, and spiritual development. Only then can you use positive reinforcement from a place of authenticity and inspire those around you!
Then we can create the lanes and provide the expectations and all the tools our team members require.
When you have this beautiful mix of magic, you are setting team members and the company up for major success.
