We were lucky to catch up with Magdalena Wosinska recently and have shared our conversation below.
Magdalena, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I ve documented my late mother for the last 10 years of her life. We were not always very close, but as the time was running out, we created an amazing love language and bond between us both through my photos. We played out the role reversal between each other and learned so many parallels in our lives, in those last few conversations we had together before she transitioned. Since then Ive been working on a photo book about her that is becoming a blue print to a feature film I hope to make in Poland in the next 1-2 years.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started taking photos at the age of 14 in Phoenix AZ. It was my dream to become a skateboard photographer but in the mid 90’s that was very tricky for a woman. Almost 27 years later I fulfilled my dream and published a skateboarding book this year to create my own vision of the skate world in the mid 90;s through the eyes of a then young teenage girl. Since then I have been shooting editorial and advertising jobs for all sorts of clients. From The New York times and Rolling Stone to Facebook, Harley Davidson, Nike and United Airlines. I love working on ad shoots and being a part of a team and hopefully creating inspiring images. I am also always shooting personal work. I love connecting with people and have who is on front of my camera really be seen. I am looking forward to continuing telling stories into the late years of my life.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I learned more of the technical side of things in my work. These days not only do you need to be a great photographer but a great writer and designer too, to get treatments that will win you jobs. Things have shifted a lot even in the last 5 years so its important to stay on top of the evolution of the work!

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I really want to show people for who they really are in my images. Not retouching, no fake moments, just documenting and capturing life for what it is. I hope we can see more and more of that as the world leans more into technology.
