We were lucky to catch up with Magda Banach recently and have shared our conversation below.
Magda, appreciate you joining us today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
To me, success not an ultimate goal, but rather a journey. It’s a process of growth and change with a lot of learning. That journey is filled with experiences, challenges and opportunities. Whether we take a small step or a big leap, this adds to our overall path to success.
I believe it’s crucial to view the success as a journey. That way we can appreciate the progress we’ve made, learn from challenges and keep ourselves open to new possibilities and experiences. If we look at success as the final destination, it’ll be harder for us to find ourselves in the whole process, in the experience, and we can more easily get frustrated at failures and end up giving up more quickly. Besides, if I determine what success means to me now, once I achieve it, pretty soon I will want more and this pursuit of success will be a never-ending road.
Therefore, for me, being a successful person means growing by constantly experiencing, learning, drawing conclusions, creating new ideas. And as we grow, we become better equipped to face challenges, adapt more easily to different environments and situations, make informed decisions and take advantage of opportunities that come our way.
So, in my opinion, to be a successful it’s important be open to continuous growth. We should be open to new ideas and different points of view, learning whether it’s new skills or just learning from the past.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As the residential interior designer and proud owner of MARB Design, my journey into the world of interior design was fueled by a lifelong passion for creativity. Following my college years, I found myself drawn to the world of interior design, prompting me to enroll in design school. Eventually, I made the bold decision to turn my enthusiasm into establishing my own design business.
I enjoy both remodeling projects and creating new spaces from scratch without the dirty work. My goal is to help people turn their homes into unique, personalized places through full-service design.
Communication is key for me. I take the time to understand my clients— their preferences, lifestyles, and needs. Instead of just following trends, I aim to create designs that authentically reflect my clients’ stories.
A crucial part of my process is using 3D renderings. Clients love seeing realistic visuals of their future space! These realistic visuals provide them with a tangible preview of their future spaces, empowering them to make well-informed decisions.
I take pride in the process I’ve developed, emphasizing the importance of communication in designing someone’s home. It’s not just about the aesthetics; it’s about building a strong connection with the client throughout the intimate experience of creating their personalized space.
Have you ever had to pivot?
One significant pivot in my life and business occurred when I decided to move from Poland, where I had initially established my successful design business. The decision to relocate to the United States marked a pivotal moment both personally and professionally.
Moving to a new country posed its challenges. I found myself starting from scratch—unfamiliar with the area, without any local connections, and navigating the complexities of a new environment. Despite the initial difficulties, I saw it as a natural next step to rebuild not only my life but also my business in this unfamiliar territory.
Going from a well-established business in Poland to starting over in the U.S. was tough. I had to learn about the local area, understand how things worked here, and build connections from scratch.
Even though it was hard, I’m glad I did it. Rebuilding my life and business in a new place taught me a lot and made me stronger. Looking back, I appreciate the experience and the lessons it brought.
Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
For me, the best source of new clients has been my online presence, especially since I moved to a new area where I didn’t know anyone. While many designers rely on word of mouth, which is great because those new clients come from satisfied past clients, I focused on establishing myself online.
I made sure to have a strong presence on social media platforms to connect with potential clients. Additionally, investing in a good website was crucial. In today’s digital age, people often search for services on the internet, making it important to build a solid online presence for my business.
