We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Måfi Wūlf a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Wūlf , thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
Well for me I come from a background of creatives my pops being an artist and a well rounded creative use to show me over and over again there was no limit to what you can create as long as you believe you can make it ,so I learned at a young age how to tailor my natural god gift to what art meant to me. That turned out to be in the form of garments and the birth of Mahsyian. Over the years I’ve mainly been self taught learning majority of everything Im capable of from trial and error and curiosity to push my self to new levels , mixed with a little YouTube here and there for guidance if i got lost or screwed something up to bad. I don’t feel with what I know now I would go back and try to relearn anything in a different way or method just for the sake of learning it faster , I’m not to big on doing things fast I’d rather take my time and do things right I’m very patient with my craft and success and believe the processes I’ve taken to master my craft has made me the creative I’am today. The most important skill for me over the years has been the ability to not be afraid to fail , mess up bad or even take a lost while navigating uncharted territories and take those misfortunes as lesson to try again from experience to become successful. I believe as a creative at some point you have to be okay with failing forward and failing often because to fail at something shows your in growth mode and learning. Many obstacles come about when trying new things what’s worked best for me is just taking a break to re collect myself and reevaluate my approach. I’ve learned a lot of everything in life is all perspective based and if you can start looking at a problem from a different perspective your solution will soon reveal itself. Im not a believer that any circumstance can derail your learning process or thirst to learn more we as creatives just have to get better at getting out our own way and removing the lid on our potential because our talent can have no limits once we make that shift in our mindset. #lonewolfmafia
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
For anybody who is not yet familiar with Måfi Wūlf I’m a San Diego California native by the way of Lake Jackson Florida and the founder , owner and creative director of Mahsyian. I got my start in the street wear industry in early 2016 by designing two shirts placed a bulk order for those shirts , did my first photoshoot with my best friend for content and started selling the remaining shirts out the trunk of my Nissan Maxima an the journey of building Mahsyian started to take form. Over the 5 years we have built a following for the love of our unique selection of garments in the realm of Tops, Hoodies and Outerwear. The biggest solution Mahsyian provides to the street wear industry and consumers of this market would be we enable others to shop exclusive 1:1 made garments which means you can express yourself in pieces without the worry of seeing anybody else in that same piece. And if your a follower of streetwear culture thats a huge thing in our world of who has it and who can get it and with mahsyian you’ll be the sole person to check off both of those boxes. We also get creative with our packaging delivering a one of a kind experience that many Mafia members have grown to love. In my opinion the experience of receiving a Mahsyian package at this moment is unmatched and the garment just showcases that story that you have had a experience. We are also a very “ put on “ brand we don’t practice many traditional advertising methods but enjoy more of doing things thats gonna harvest genuine love and support for the brand and growing things the slow and organic route. To date we are very proud of just the all around success , support and love we get for our brand. Very appreciative of every member no matter the role they play in our story of building what will become a corner stone brand not only for fashion and streetwear but one of the most recognizable brands globally. As for potential new members I hope you join the lifestyle of mahsyian sooner then later so your entry into the family wont be to costly but more so than that I just hope you can find a few pieces that you can fall in love with and own as your small piece of the company. But the first step is to follow us on social platforms @mahsyian and myself @bigpoppawolf for we don’t do scheduled drops to often but random ones very frequently. #lonewolfmafia
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My only sole goal in life is to be a light of inspiration , to relate to creatives and others to motivate them to be great themselves and trust the process of mastering your talents, No matter the realm of your creative gift. And as i continue to build my platform that allows me to reach more people and make that goal a reality. By sharing my processes and story hopefully it lights the candles of many to come after me that the rules of the past our dated and just enjoy doing things your way and in your timing the internet has changed a lot of things in life. Business is one of them the days of mass middle men, traditional jobs, traditional education by the way of a university are gone and with a will to self educate mixed with your creativity you can achieve much more than what you think. #lonewolfmafia
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I’m very big on self development and reading , firm believer you are what you feed your mind . Some great reads that I’ve read over the last few months would be the entire Daymond John series but my favorite would be Power of Broke, The 22 Laws of Branding , Doing the impossible , Good to Great , The road to riches and many more. Also would recommend anybody to follow Gary Vee as well as Bob proctor there insight on life and business can be very impactful in shifting your mindset to one needed to win. #lonewolfmafia
