Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Maegan Kabel. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Maegan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
When I am being fully honest, Gumball Revue never felt like a choice. I tried working a non-creative job and doing creative endeavors on the side. The idea of it left me feeling trapped and the reality proved to be even more confining. I considered working for creative companies, but I longed for the autonomy to create the art that accurately represented who I am while allowing me to connect with those around me. So, giving entrepreneurship a swing was the only option.
The opportunity for art is all around us. Whether we are in our cars or on our phones, we are consistently inundated with media, and the potential for a more beautiful world was begging to be realized. When starting my business, I sought to merge art and marketing in a way that allowed business owners to have beautiful and eye-catching content while capturing the true essence of their personalities. Whether it’s for a product, a service, a platform, or a movement, the art we create has the potential to transform the world around us. It’s never just been about taking photos or designing motion graphics. It’s been about creating art that tells stories inspires thought, and makes people feel. My greatest passion is bringing stories to life, and I love doing so in unexpected ways. Gumball Revue started so that I could share that as openly as possible.

Maegan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a branding photographer and content designer. I focus on telling the story behind the brand. I help my clients share their stories in a bold and authentic way that helps them to connect with their clients.
I got started with photography in high school and fell in love with the studio in my time studying at SCAD. I loved the controlled lighting as well as the ability to imagine and realize full characters, props, and set pieces. Ultimately, I wanted to bring all of these skills and apply them to a marketing plan.
I aim to answer the question “If you/your brand was the feature in a magazine, what image would be on the cover?” I love taking a person’s personality, interests, goals, and visuals and dialing them up to an eleven to see what magic we can create. It’s all about being curious, dreaming big, and asking ‘what if…?’

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Absolutely. I have a really strong attachment to messaging about embracing who you are and sharing it with the world because the world needs YOU.
It started with an inscription my father left me in the front of my copy of “The Art Book” to never let the light inside of me go out. It continued through my left hand tattoo of the word “Sing” – for the My Chemical Romance song by that name – that is all about being you and being loud because it’s what the world needs. I’m pushing it further by creating inside and outside of Gumball Revue.
While my art is my form of putting myself into the world, I love facilitating others sharing their uniqueness, feeling empowered to share their story, and building connections with others.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
I spend a lot of my free-time media consumption time on personal and business development. I absolutely love the topic, but it does make it hard to remember who’s said what when. For me, it’s been less about the how and more about battling my mindblocks in a ton of areas. A few key works that stand out are “Radical Confidence” by Lisa Bilyeu, “Find Your F*ck Yeah” by Alexis Rockley, and “Girl on Fire” by Cara Alwill. These books were game changers for me in terms of trusting myself and following my path into entrepreneurship.
Beyond books and podcasts, coaches and entrepreneurial colleagues are always keeping me curious in how I handle entrepreneurship. Keeping open conversations has been invaluable in advancing to where I am now.
