Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Maecy Richardson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Maecy, thanks for joining us today. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
To be safe. I was told by so many of my family and friends that getting a salary job with the gov. or with any other business or tech company will be the financially safest way to live life and push my dreams to the back burner. I was tired of hearing the sentence “i love to do “this” but I chose the business world for security”, that wasn’t going to be me. If I have Artsy talents I must have them for a reason, why not see where I can go and what adventures I can experience with them. The 9-5 world will always be there, I’m not going to be young forever. No one is, which is why I also encourage and share positivity with people along my journey to help them live for the fullest and enjoy all the happy things while they can.
Maecy, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I started this journey in college in my first show Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. From there I discovered my love for the stage and switched my major from Business Administration to Theater Performance. During those years I studied under multiple directors, working on stage or on camera while also learning the world of tech backstage. I started learning about the film industry and began auditioning for local and regional commercials, short films and TV Networks. During this time I was also performing in community and professional theater. After college I started working for Princess Parties of DC and Skylark Creative Group and absolutely loved it! From here I met incredible people who helped me into the world of fashion modeling nationally and Internationally in newspapers, online articles, runway shows and magazines. When I’m not traveling the world I’m also singing the National Anthem for Georgetown University at the Capital One Arena. I never would have thought that life would send me down this path but I’m so grateful for it. I found my passion and want everyone else to be able to experience that same feeling. No matter what your talents are or what you love to do, you’re meant to do it for a reason (safely of course). Life is about exploring and living as much as we can and sending out all the positivity while doing so.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I know a lot of adults my age and older that chose the safe choice for their career and have always regretted never going for their dream. I’m not going to be that person. Life is so short and so long at the same time, we never truly know how much we are going to experience so why not live the best while we can. I want to show my future daughter that she can have and accomplish anything she wants in this world if she works hard enough, and that every dream she has deserves to come true. I want to show her that sometimes there’s another path that’s a little more colorful than everyone else’s but that’s completely OK! There will always be time to work a 9-5 salary job, we aren’t going to be young forever. Why not be our most creative and authentic selves now!
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The lives I get to impact every week. Between work, princess birthday parties, meet and greets and concerts I always have a moment with the kids and say “Never forget how Awesome you are and that you are made you for a reason!”. With all the craziness of life sometimes its easy to forget that, especially for kids. Who knows whether that’s their first time hearing it or 5th time, if it brings a smile to their face that’s all that matters.
