We were lucky to catch up with Mae Seven recently and have shared our conversation below.

MAE SEVEN, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?

Growing up in a musical household, we listened to a lot of different genres as kids. Winter began his musical journey at the age of 8 with classical piano, while Styn explored songwriting and singing. After our Dad, an avid guitarist, introduced us to Logic Pro we started producing our own compositions.

While our meticulous approach has its benefits, we’ve learned the importance of setting deadlines and embracing imperfection. In the early days, we often spent excessive time perfecting tracks, delaying their release. We now understand that sometimes it’s better to fail early on and learn from our mistakes than to strive for unattainable perfection.

MAE SEVEN, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

We’re two brothers from the Netherlands, Winter and Styn, who make music together as MAE SEVEN. Winter handles the music productions, while Styn writes and sings. Together, we’ve released over 30 projects.

Despite our humble beginnings in the small town of ‘s-Heerenberg, we’ve built a career in the competitive music scene of Los Angeles. We’ve performed at some of the city’s most iconic venues. And collaborated with names like Keke Palmer, Anthony Kilhofer, and Ken Lewis (to name a few). Beyond our work with MAE SEVEN, Winter also performs as a DJ at renowned venues like Soho House, Lock & Key, Blind Barber and many more. Showcasing our own work while mixing different genres.

In the coming months, we’ll be launching solo projects for Styn, showcasing his artistry on a new level. While Winter will continue to produce, Styn will take center stage as the sole vocalist.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?

Our ultimate goal is to expand our creative horizons into fashion, videography, and design. Seamlessly integrating these elements with our music.

Mostly by collaboration and teaming up with creative talents in our personal network. Seeing the potential there and believing in the end goal works as a great drive.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?

Creating something from nothing is incredibly rewarding, especially when you receive positive feedback from people around the world.

Whether it’s just a little DM or a comment on YouTube, it’s a unique way to connect with people from all backgrounds and cultures.
