We recently connected with Mae Renee and have shared our conversation below.
Mae, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s talk legacy – what sort of legacy do you hope to build?
One’s legacy is how the people of the world will remember how you made them feel. It is how the world remembers one’s name.
I pray that my legacy is one of greatness, kindness, love, resilience, passion, empathy, and so much more.
Mae, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Mae Renee! I am a First Generation Filipina born on this side of the pond, but the lone star state is where I call home. I am a High Fashion, Runway, Commercial/Print Model, Brand Ambassador, Actress, advocate for mental health awareness and women empowerment. I wear a lot of hats 😉
I have been in love with fashion since I can remember! I always knew that I would have a career that allowed me to utilize my creative side and I am so thankful the universe allowed me to channel that into something that makes me feel beyond blessed and brings me true joy. I will say, this industry is not an easy one to break in to, and I know people hear that all the time. But it’s because it’s true!! There are countless long days and even longer nights.
I have anxiety, and oddly enough, modeling has helped me with managing it. I can’t explain why, but when I get in front of the camera or on the runway all the noise just disappears and I’m floating on a cloud of pure bliss! Being able to create art and being able to connect with so many wonderful people, is the best part of this journey! Every now and then, there are days where I do get a bit overwhelmed, but I push through and make sure at the end of the day I’m doing what makes me happy. That’s the key, that, and really and truly believing in yourself!
The fashion industry is changing its perspective when it comes to the unrealistic beauty standards that society has deemed the norm in the past. Which I LOVE LOVE LOVE to see!
Each and every woman is beautiful and needs to be represented in this industry. My hope is that my journey inspires the next generation to go after their dreams! Literally the sky is the limit! Life is too short to wonder “what if I had decided to just go for it?”
I’m here to tell you dolls anything is possible with a little Peace, Love, and Stardust!
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
As cliché as this sounds – being myself! Because at the end of the day, there is no one like ME and that is what sets me apart from everyone else and leaves that lasting impression.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I have been juggling multiple things at once since I can remember. Day job, modeling career, parenthood, friends, the list goes on and on. I remember right when the pandemic hit, I immediately felt my heart drop to my stomach. Where I am, the fashion scene almost shut down all together. The lines of communication where I would get notifications for any castings – radio silence. I went from having 90 million things to do – to basically nothing. Photoshoots we’re even difficult to coordinate with all the regulations. It seemed like no matter what, that I wasn’t going to be able to do what I love. But I kept practicing my walk, my posing, my acting, all of it! Every day I just kept envisioning myself doing what I love and with a lot of patience I am ecstatic to say that I have been able to get back to full steam ahead with getting back to making art.
When you have a vision, make a plan and stick to it – trust the process.
