We recently connected with Mae Brunken and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Mae thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with a story that highlights an important way in which your brand diverges from the industry standard.
I look at a space in multiple ways. I consider it in the same way I would a film set that tells the story of the characters who inhabit it, but I’m also interested in how a space makes you feel. I like to create an overall sensory experience, whether it’s a calm space, or a stimulating environment. The energy of a space can effect moods, productivity, sleep and overall harmony. This has a lot to do with color and shape, in addition to what the people who occupy it bring to the table.

Mae , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve always been interested in interior design and architecture. After receiving my degree in interior design, I worked at a design studio in Arizona doing boutique hospitality and high end residential projects, which is primarily what I focus on today.
I also worked in the film industry as a set decorator for several years, which changed the way I approach interiors. This experience gave me a new perspective to create uplifting sets that tell the client’s story.
Our projects span from complete renovations, to custom furnishings and distinctive accessories that support our client’s lifestyle. We understand how design impacts people’s lives and it is our goal to create interiors for inspired living, combined with purposeful and timeless design.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
I create not only for the sake of beauty, but I care about how an environment makes you feel.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is when you actually get to create. This may sound obvious, but what most people don’t realize is that it is actually quite a small percentage of the job. The rest is a combination of managing clients, subcontractors, employees,, the projects and running a business. The other rewarding part of my job is when I have a good client who let’s me do my job and I see the project come together in the way I envisioned it.
