We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Madysen Johnson. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Madysen below.
Alright, Madysen thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you take vacations? Why or why not?
I take vacations because feel like time to myself is extremely important especially as a creative. I work a full time job Monday-Friday and use my weekends to create. I am always working so it feels good to go on vacations.
Madysen, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Since I was a young child I have always had an interest for cameras. My mother gifted me a Barbie doll that has a camera in it and she would always buy me digital and disposable cameras. As I grew older my love for cameras grew. I think my versatility and my creative concepts set me apart from others. I like to say my work has no genre and I don’t just stick to a specific art style. I am able to bring my clients visions to life no matter what the aesthetic is. I am most proud of me being able to run a business on my own while dealing with several mental illnesses. I want all of my potential clients to know that there is no concept too big or crazy for me to handle.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
I found out that reaching out to models and asking them to help me bring my own concepts to life helps me gain clientele. I always have ideas and concepts but my clients usually have their own so its easier to get a model that’s willing to work with me. Whenever I have somebody model for me its always easier to relay my concept because its my ideas and I know exactly how I want it to turn out. My models post my work and I post it as well and I tend to have eye catching work so it gets attention.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
A few months after I started my photography business I had an extremely bad mental breakdown that ended with me being institutionalized. I wanted to sell the little equipment I had and just give up on everything. Fast forward to now I am still dealing with mental illness but I use my art to help me cope and get through the tough times.
