We recently connected with Mady Fischelli and have shared our conversation below.
Mady, appreciate you joining us today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
Growing up, I always thought you absolutely had to go to college and get a degree. At the time, I think that’s really what society made it seem like too. There wasn’t as much of a “go getter, invest in your business, entrepreneurial” mindset. Once I got to college though, my photography business started to grow rapidly. I would say my social media presence helped that grow tremendously as well. The more my brand grew, the less I had time for school/studying. I started to feel a tension of, if I wanted to succeed in something, I had to pick one or the other. The logical decision would be to finish school like a normal person and get that degree (basically what I’ve been trained to do my whole life). Or… just maybe… what if I left school? What if I invested my time and money into my own business and started providing for myself at a young age? I’d tell myself “you’re going to leave school, then fail. You’re going to go broke. Then you’ll have nothing to stand on to get you a job.” I’d constantly weigh the what-ifs of both sides. After a few weeks of back and forth, I decided to do the thing that scared me the most and provided absolutely no security at all. I left college and didn’t look back! It’s weird because as soon as I left, I had never felt so free and empowered. It was one of the riskiest things I’ve ever done, but the most rewarding. It took trial and error to be successful of course, but looking back I’m so glad I made the hard decision for what’s best for me.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
