Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Mads & Co. . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Mads & Co. , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I didn’t start music seriously until I was in college. Growing up I was in a sports household and I was good at soccer so unless It was church related we couldn’t do music related things. I think if I were able to have started music sooner, I’d maybe be a little further along than I am now, but I’ve also been able to experience a lot any way music wise not starting sooner. I wish I would’ve started music sooner more so because it’s such an outlet for me to be able to express what I’m feeling over certain topics and experiences I’ve been through.
Mads & Co. , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve always had a love for music. I just wasn’t able to fully invest my time in it until I was in college and was able to start making my own decisions on things I wanted to do. I started out solely on the ukulele and then from there got a guitar and started learning guitar a year after I learned ukulele. I’ve always written songs so that side of music has always been a constant for me.
I started Mads & Co. because I was finding It difficult to find consistent band mates and It was easier this way to have a “co.” Where I could just ask different musicians if they were available to play with me. Once I moved back to STL I found consistent bandmates, but since I already had released music under Mads & Co. It was easier to just keep the name and continue making music with the same name.
Over the last year Mads & Co. has released their first album and are actively trying to get a wider fan base throughout the STL area and areas beyond. We are working on releasing more music and merch as well within this next year. We are also on all social media platforms!
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Making the transition from being in an area where my music was more well known to an area where I’ve had to start my music journey over. It’s been an adjustment and having to figure out how to promote my music in an area I’m not familiar with.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I’m really wanting to expand our music outward, but also make music that people can relate to and feel heard by. Being intentional with our music is important to me because having people relate to what we are playing makes what we are making feel like we are doing something right.
