We recently connected with Madison Tegg and have shared our conversation below.
Madison, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
One of the most meaningful projects I’ve gotten to work on was helping with a church plant here in the Twin Cities. The Church is called Risen Life Church and it’s been an organization I have been apart of for a few years. I was apart of the launch team with the plan to launch in Fall of 2020 but then Covid-19 put a hold on things for us.
Fast forward two years we have now officially launched as a church in New Hope, MN in the fall of 2022. Being apart of the church launch in 2020 was actually the start of my design career. It all started with a volunteer position I actually insisted our pastor to give me, and he willingly accepted. It was fun to play around with our brand and make it into something special for the church I was apart of. I spent most of my at home covid days messing around with branding and making graphics for our church.
A year and a half later our Pastor extended a job offer to work as the church’s designer part time and that was the start of my freelance career and could quit my 9 to 5 job I currently had. I loved what I did and this project of being the designer fo a church launch was a huge stepping stone to where I am today, and I’m so thankful for them to put their trust in me as a designer. I had full creative control and got to work on everything from merch, print material, their website, and getting to create content for socials. With this opportunity it gave me the needed experience and time to grow and learn as a designer and build the confidence that I needed to get my business started.

Madison, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
HELLO, I’M MADISON
I’m obsessed with what I get do every day. I love getting to work with thoughtful + bad ass entrepreneurs and brands with BIG visions. And I somehow get to do that as my career, + I’m so thankful. I love to find the beauty in small details, and use them to establish a cohesive and intentional brand identity. Always custom to you and what your business represents.
I’m an independent graphic designer specializing in unique and thoughtful design to elevate your business. As a new and creative set of eyes on your business, I aim to combine all the ingredients to the recipe: your passion + zone of genius, your unique vision + dreams, strategy + research, and create magic with what you’ve already established.
I aim to get a thorough understanding of your brand + your needs before I start working, and I use strategy and originality in my execution. I wanted to make great design available for business owners at all stages for where you’re at in your business. With this in mind I have created packages that vary in size because everyones business varies with what their needs are.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
A huge lesson for me I had to learn was that you are never too young to start a business. I am currently 25 years old and I own my own business and about 80% of people I tell are shocked, amazed, or skeptical. It’s something I think all young entrepreneurs have dealt with at least once in their career. I’ve had to shift my mindset to “I don’t know what I’m doing” to “No one knows what they are doing” and by that I mean we all, at all stages of life are still figuring “it” out. If you feel like you have it all figured out, you probably don’t, and that’s okay because no one really feels like they always have it together.
Especially being a young business owner I get a lot of questions regarding who I use to work for and what my experience is. Spoiler alert: if you’re good at what you do, you work hard, and are willing to put in the necessary work, you don’t actually need 15 years of experience first. Now it wasn’t and isn’t easy to start your own business and there are disadvantages and challenges I face as a young entrepreneur, and everyone will have their own struggles. But my advice to those in similar situations is to do your research, get a good business coach, and surround yourself with like minded people who have the same goals and will help push you towards them.
You’re never too young to start a business and it’s never to late for you to start a business either!

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me the most rewarding aspect of my job is seeing a client have that “AHA moment” when they see their new branding or a completed project. Branding is something I am so passionate about and it’s also something that can be easily overlooked by business owners who don’t live in the creative world. Business owners are literally keeping their businesses alive everyday and that’s not easy work. Somedays will be easy and some days you will feel like you’re drowning, and that where I want to come in and help.
When you as a business owner are already wearing so many hats I want to be able to take the creative side off your hands and help create a cohesive brand to elevate your business internally and externally. And I’m aware that this is an area that often gets pushed back to “later” or overlooked because business owners are so busy pouring into other aspects of the business. But once a client comes to me and I can take their already existing business and make it into more than just a name or a logo, that where I find the beauty.
To me it is so nice to see it all click together for those clients and realize that this isn’t just making it “prettier” but also is strategic for brand recognition, brand loyalty, and helps keep everything cohesive. I love seeing that glimmer of excitement of being able to do more with their business, it makes me feel like I’m in the right career and gets me so excited for what else my clients can do.
Your business is so much more than just a logo and I want to help you attract and go after your dream clients!
