We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Madison Packer. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Madison below.
Madison, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
I feel like I was a little “late to the game.” Many of my fellow colleagues started taking acting classes and had vocal coaches from young ages. I had caught the singing and theatre bug from a very young age (anecdotally, my mom says I’d been singing since the womb, haha), but I hadn’t taken any classes. I was 12 when I had the realization of, “oh, this is what I’m meant to do!” I took theatre my freshman year of high school. But, at the time, I didn’t understand the craft of acting. I was going off of the emotions of the characters I played which can leave a really flat performance. My formal training didn’t start until I attended the Marian Musical and Dramatic Academy in NYC. It had been my dream school since I was 12. And while it was a literal dream come true, my goodness, it was hard. Conservatory programs are notorious for really pushing their students and AMDA was no exception. However, it was incredibly rewarding.
AMDA is where I fell in love with the craft of acting. It gave me the tools I needed to know how to build a character, how to dissect a script, and how to create a scene with your scene partner(s).
Knowing what I know now, I don’t know if there’s anything I would change in order to learn is faster/sooner. I will say that, since graduating and maturing, I’ve become less rigid with the frame work that AMDA gave me. I’ve taken the pieces that really work for me and have left the rest behind. I would also tell my younger self to have more fun! I think acting really comes alive when all of the actors are able to come back to the state of play. Of course, we need to know your lines. You need to do the character work and know the relationships you have with each person, but I feel that after you do that work, it’s about play,

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Madison Packer (peep the new last name because I got married to my best friend last year, haha!) I’m a local Actress, singer, and influencer. I’m currently based in San Antonio, Texas. I trained and graduated from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in NYC.
I also recently dived into the San Antonio film and modeling world which has been an absolute blast.
I’m primarily on Instagram @MadisonPackerOfficial where I share covers, behind the scenes, and modest outfits. I’m a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and I love it. Outside of acting/content creating, I love all things health/fitness, reading, and going on hikes with my amazing hubby!

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I think the greatest resources of all time for anyone, not just artists, is identifying your purpose. I feel that the main resources that artists point to are in the vein of social media presence, networking, and supporting your local community artists–which, yes, are all incredibly important! However, I don’t think any of those things matter if you don’t know your why. Why are you in this industry? What is your end goal? You could have the 1 million followers and still be unsatisfied with your career. But you can hone in on your purpose and let it drive you, you will lead your life and career with more joy, gratitude, and fulfillment.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
This ties back to the last question where I spoke about purpose. For me, I personally believe that we are all born with unique gifts and talents from God and that we are called to share them. I hope that through sharing my talents, I am able to share the light of Christ. I hope to bring laughter, joy, and thoughtful introspection to those who see my work or watch my content. I pray that others can feel the love Heavenly Father has for them through their interactions with me. Honest story telling connects us all to each other and therefore connects us to our higher purpose.
