Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Madison Marcus-Paddison. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Madison, thanks for joining us today. Looking back on your career, have you ever worked with a great leader or boss? We’d love to hear about the experience and what you think made them such a great leader.
Thank you so much for having me! While working within the public education system, I had the pleasure of crossing paths with Ginger Houghton- on my quest for a more fulfilling endeavor. I ended up working part time at a local agency providing therapy to children and adults. At the time, Ginger served as the director of behavioral health. Despite the usual challenges of our workplace, Ginger was a beacon of positivity. She was all about creating an environment where we could openly communicate and support each other. It was refreshing, to say the least.
Even after Ginger’s departure, we stayed in touch. When she started Bright Spot Counseling several months later, I just knew I had to be a part of it. The environment Ginger has created not only allows therapists to express themselves authentically but also encourages a sense of purpose and alignment with our values. We employ similarly minded therapists and the camaraderie is unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. It’s amazing what you can accomplish when everyone is on the same page and basic needs are met- when open communication and mutual respect is the expectation. I don’t want to speak for everyone, but personally, I find myself better equipped to extend genuine care and support to my clients because those needs are met.
Since working with Ginger at Bright Spot, I’ve noticed a significant improvement in my well-being and enthusiasm for my work. My dedication to competency and delivering high-quality care to our community has soared to the forefront of my priorities because it can- because Ginger has created a space where her employees are not overwhelmed by workloads and stressed about our workplace dynamics. I attribute so much of my career fulfillment to the nurturing workplace culture that Ginger has painstakingly cultivated.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I began my career training to be a forensic interviewer while in graduate school. During that time, I decided to take coursework related to school social work and ended up spending the first 11 years of my career providing services to general and special education students in the public education system. On my search for something more fulfilling, I began working as an outpatient therapist and over the past few years have honed my skills and extended my practice to working with adults, something I find very rewarding. Over the past five years, I’ve been working as a therapist for Bright Spot Counseling specializing in the complexities that individuals face in navigating anxiety, depression, perfectionism, infertility and family conflict.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Psychology Today, Social Media and Word of Mouth have been amazing avenues for referrals.

Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
