We recently connected with Madison Kearney and have shared our conversation below.
Madison , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
After years of being in front of the camera, I, over time, realized that I wanted to step up my fashion game for me and also for me feed. I had developed a deep love of jewelry while modeling; specifically statement jewelry. I loved looking at people’s social media feed and seeing their bold jewelry. Walking into a store, I naturally gravitated towards the jewelry section to see what fun, bold, and colorful jewelry they had for sale. I gradually started centering my outfits around my jewelry pieces. That’s when I woke up one day with the bright idea that I should start my own business making my own jewelry. I started my business in the summer of 2021 and named it Indigo Ocean Boutique.
I created my brand in hopes that people would look at my jewelry the way I looked at all jewelry for so many years.
Jewelry really ties an outfit together whether you need simple gold hoop earrings, a large and bold necklace, dainty and stackable rings, or even a nice summer anklet. I wanted to test my brain and see what I was capable of making on my own with endless creative freedom.
Indigo Ocean recently expanded to include my love for crystals, wall decor, plants and hand painted plant pots.
With my jewelry taking a more earthy and bohemian turn over the last year, I decided that my other hobbies and passions deserved a spot in my business as well.
I now offer small plants, seeds, wall decor, hand painted flower pots and crystals.
When people come across my social media platforms, I want them to feel relaxed and welcomed. I want them to find simplicity in shopping for something that you can love, admire and enjoy. Connecting with the things we spend our money on it important! It’s rare to come across a piece of jewelry or crystal or wall hanging that speaks to you so when you do find that love and connection with something, you should be able to purchase and enjoy it!
I want to offer products that people can connect with and enjoy long term.
I truly believe there is no better feeling than watching a plant grow, putting on your favorite jewelry, hanging up a new piece of art in your home, or recharging and connecting with a crystal.
Everyone deserves those little joys in life and that’s what I love bringing to the table!

Madison , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Indigo Ocean Boutique provides small goods such as handmade jewelry, small plants, hand painted plant pots, crystals, and hand made wall decor.
Everything is centered around a bohemian an earthy atmosphere. Neutral tones, a lot of wood and beautiful class beads are used in a lot of my handmade products.
I love reaching new clients and watching them experience the love and joy of even the smallest or most simple handmade good.
I believe connecting with the things we put our time and money into matters so I provide products that require attention and care. Every time you see that statement necklace or wall decor I want the customer to remember how happy they were to buy that item for themselves. Every time you have to water your plant, I want the customer to feel pride in taking care of something so delicate and beautiful.
I want people to purchase from Indigo Ocean with emotion and intention!
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
When the idea of Indigo Ocean popped in my head, I truly didn’t even know where to begin. I was working part time as a private nanny and didn’t have much extra from my paychecks. Over the course of 4 months, I created my logo, an Instagram account, and saved $100 to start building the foundation of my business.
With $100 I bought all the needs to make jewelry, bought package and shipping supplies, and got stickers made with my businesses logo on them.
I reached out to friends and some of my favorite smaller content creators and asked if I could send them a piece of jewelry in exchange for them posting about my business.
After everything was shipped to my eight collaborators, I used the last $10 of my budget to promote my first post on my business Instagram.
Between my promoted post and my collaboration with my eight friends, as well as other friends and family sharing my post and supporting me out of love, I gained 250 followers my first month and had over 40 sales!

How did you build your audience on social media?
When I sat down to plan the building of my online presence for Indigo Ocean, I really had to zone in on what I was selling and who my target audience should me. I then carefully chose eight empowered women who’s beliefs and morals on equality, body positivity, mental health and the love of jewelry aligned with mine.
Hashtags helped build my following as well. I would hashtag things that I knew I loved and enjoyed and prioritized in hopes that other people who love that stuff would find my business and could connect with me and my brand!
