We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Madison Elyse a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Madison, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you share a customer success story with us?
I was hired for a project where I was creative directing and styling for a client. This client had little to no idea how she wanted to execute her shoot, however she knew she needed photos that will capture her brand’s identity as well as her personality. This was her first time for both services, so I made sure to explain the process and ask more questions to make sure I was understanding her vision. Upon first shooting I could tell she wasn’t as comfortable with the camera, so I posed her for her shots and encouraged small natural movements for the photographer to capture. Throughout the shoot I could see her becoming more relaxed which resulted in the shots improving. After the shoot, she was relieved I was there and was more than happy with how her photos turned out!
Madison, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hey! I’m Madison Elyse, I am a Content Creator and Creative Director.
I provide services to further your photoshoots and content for business, and personal purposes.
Long story short, I got into this craft by doing so for myself and friends. I enjoyed recording the project and editing cool transitions. After more people was exposed to my work I was able to extend my content creation services to others. Creative direction came later as I worked with local photographers and models who wanted to expand their portfolio.
I solve the “I don’t know” question for clients. Whether they are unsure of what they want to convey in their shoots, or unsure of what content can further their brands. I enjoy providing different perspectives and angles they may not have thought about and seeing them implement them even after I have provided my services.
I think what sets me apart from others is the fact I’ve been in operations, became the photographer, the stylist, etc. so I can see projects from different angles than most. I’ve also had to shift into content for apparel + accessories upon accepting a position with Hoop Mobb; which requires a different approach challenging my creative skills. This is what makes it enjoyable to me, it gives me the opportunity to learn and grow as a creator.
I am most proud of my journey as a creative. I started with self doubt and thought that I would never be able to do what I love full time. However, as time progressed it turned into “why can’t I?” Don’t get me wrong, self doubt still creeps in but the ability to rise above it and prove myself wrong is always rewarding and inspiring to me in the end.
Main thing I want people to take away is there isn’t an idea that you cannot make a reality. Once again, whether it is through content, a shoot, or any creative avenue I would love to help you bring it to life!
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a creative is how clients react to the final product, especially if they had no clue how it would all come together.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Last year I accepted a full time position with Hoop Mobb as a Creative Assistant, where I am in charge of product shots, content creation, emails, etc. Of course I had experience in content creation, editing, and operations however, not specifically for apparel + accessories. There are a lot of small details that go into the accessories we sell, so therefore I have to be careful to capture those details for our customers. This was a major change for me, however, it strengthened me and gave me more tools as a creator.
