We were lucky to catch up with Madison Dufour recently and have shared our conversation below.
Madison, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
At the end of 2020 my husband and I sold our home and everything we owned and moved into a vanlife lifestyle. We had decided before we were married that we would not want to look back and wonder ‘What if…?’ ever in our marriage. If we were going to try tiny living it would be then and there.
That’s when I decided to start blogging.
I had this grandeur vision of doing well right off the bat because our life was interesting to me so went wouldn’t it be interesting to others?
But no. I had no idea what I was doing.
If I could go back and give myself advice it would be to take an SEO blogging course sooner and learn how to write content that would rise to the top faster.
Blogging is a marathon, not a sprint, it can take a while to become monetary, especially if you don’t know how to use your enemy (online search engines) as a tool.
So though I eventually figured it out, I wish I had started that sooner and saved myself many hours of frustration and feelings of failure.
Madison, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a cosmetologist and barber by trade, and I really do love doing hair, but I really love writing too.
Thus The Exquisite Find Hair Blog began.
The Exquisite Find Hair Blog is simply information for cosmetology, students, barber students, already licensed professionals that are looking for help optimizing their business, or even those seeking help for becoming self-employed, or starting their own salon.
Not only does the blog contain many useful articles for professionals, but also for those who just have questions about their own personal hair care.
There are many tips and tricks about hair health, products and countless other topics regarding hair that offer helpful information in the blog.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being a blogger for me, is kind of a selfish one.
It’s knowing that the countless hours that I’ve spent trying to build my blog into a business so that I can stay home and raise a family wasn’t in vain.
It feels good to have a valuable information and knowledge to share with others.
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My goal in being a creative blogger within the niche of my passion, hair, is that I won’t have to set an alarm in the morning to get to work. And I don’t have to leave my family and my children with someone else while I’m gone. My goal is to be able to support my family and bring an income all while working for myself, and not missing any precious moments in the fleeting years of my children’s early childhood.
