Alright, Madison thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
Thank you for having me! Dozzzed was created from a book full of my thoughts and ideas. When people hear and see my brand name I want them to know what my product is associated with. I started playing around with the word sleep and looked up synonyms for it. Restless? Coma? Snooze? Slumber? Doze? I wrote down each word until I found something fitting. Doze stood out the most to me and was the perfect option as it regenerates to sleeping but I wanted to add my own flair to it. Adding the three Z’s indicating sleep I thought would set me apart. So when you hear Dozzzed you know it’s a product related to sleep and relaxation. But when you see my logo and the name of the brand you instantly know as well and will be intrigued.

Madison, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Heyyy, again! I am Madison Collins, 29 an up-and-coming entrepreneur and the owner of Dozzzed. Having a background in textiles and apparel design influenced me to create my brand of silk pillowcases.
My silk pillowcases solve the problems of acne prone skin, dry frizzy hair, and a lack of luxury you didn’t know you deserved. What sets me apart from others is, I want people to know that no matter how successful my business is I want them to know who I am and where I come from. Sometimes we lose sight of why a brand was created and the foundation behind it.
I am most proud of working towards my dream and maintaining the vision I have for my brand. Trying to stay consistent is hard but I feel like this is just the beginning for me and my brand. I have been in business for 3 years and I am excited to see where my brand goes and I am grateful to continue the journey of success.
I want my brand to be relatable to others and to show the importance of self-care, self-worth, and knowing this is the luxury we all deserve. 9/10 everyone sleeps on a pillowcase but not everyone sleeps on a silk pillowcase. Sleeping on silk is a luxury I am providing. It is imperative to know the benefits of silk and the difference it shows rather than sleeping on cotton or even satin fabric. I indulge in self-care weekly and I know the effort it can take to maintain a lifestyle of higher living. Self-care is important to me and important to my customer. My customer understands the essentials of taking care of themselves by taking the proper steps of protecting their hair and skin. I am not just selling a pillowcase, I am selling a luxury; I am selling a lifestyle.

Can you talk to us about manufacturing? How’d you figure it all out? We’d love to hear the story.
Dozzzed pillowcases are manufactured. In the beginning of creating the brand, I did think to sew the pillowcases myself based on incoming orders. But I had to consider I am a team of one and I wanted everything to be precise. So I started to search for manufacturers in my area as I wanted to work with a company in the U.S., especially in my home state. I found a manufacturer within my state and my budget and proceeded to place my order. Working with this manufacturer gave me free range in how I wanted my pillowcases to be created. I picked out my silk fabrics and created the pattern of the pillowcase for the perfect standard/queen size. My first collection created in the U.S. was a great selling point to our customers as it made them feel satisfied and a sense of warmth.
Within creating my second collection, I decided to take another route and research manufacturers overseas. I received emails from companies that sold a wide variety of silk products at a decent cost. After researching, communicating through countless emails, and receiving samples I found a manufacturer I wanted to work with directly. This manufacturer provided superior quality silk with numerous colors. These products were made to order based on color, size, and quality. I was excited to evolve and enhance my next collection to give my customers more range in color and sizes as I will be releasing king sizes this coming fall (stay tuned!). Unfortunately, ordering overseas I was not aware of the import duty taxes. This was an additional cost alone from my order and my package was stuck in customs until I paid it. I had no choice but to pay for it because I wanted my products in my possession instantly. I thought ordering from overseas would give me an advantage on my price and I will get a little more bang for my buck. After including the import duty taxes I ended up spending more than I wanted when it came down to my budget. This was definitely a lesson learned as I analyzed the details on import duty taxes and I am now a little at ease with experiencing the trial and error in manufacturing. Safe to say I will proceed to manufacture in my country and home state.

How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.
Dozzzed is sold on my website I created using Shopify. I love the free range Shopify provides as my site was easy to create and navigate. I put a lot of detail within my webpage and had a clear vision of how I wanted my customers to shop. Having my own site was my number choice because I have full control and I’m able to see the analytics of my sales which is a major pro. I am also able to create my marketing campaigns within the website as well which helps with engaging and attracting more customers. I am open and looking into putting my products on Amazon to expand my audience and gain brand exposure.
