Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Madelyn Recker. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Madelyn, appreciate you joining us today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
Being a business owner has absolutely brought me happiness—but it’s a different kind of happiness. It’s not always soft or easy. It’s layered with responsibility, risk, and sometimes exhaustion. But it’s also filled with purpose, freedom, and the kind of fulfillment that only comes from building something that’s yours—that reflects your heart and vision.
That said, I’d be lying if I said I never think about what it would be like to just clock in and out again. The last time that thought crept in was after a long day when three clients rescheduled in a row. I was already behind on inventory, I hadn’t eaten anything but coffee, and the backend of the business was weighing heavy on me—emails, taxes, website updates—it was one of those “the list keeps growing” kind of days.
I remember sitting in my treatment room with the lights off, just staring at the wall, thinking: Wouldn’t it be nice to just show up, do the work, and not carry all this? No overhead A steady inc come.. No unpredictability. Just simplicity.
But in that quiet moment, I also realized: I’ve never felt this proud, this challenged, or this connected to people as I do now. My clients trust me with their skin, but also with their stories. I get to create a space where people feel cared for and seen. And yes, the weight is heavier—but the joy is deeper, too.
So I let myself feel the frustration, but I also reminded myself: I chose this. And I’m still choosing it, every day. Even on the hard ones.

Madelyn, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Madelyn Recker, and I’m the founder of SKNMUSE, a skincare studio rooted in holistic wellness, education, and results. I became an esthetician because I saw how deeply skin can impact someone’s confidence, self-perception, and overall well-being. I struggled with acne myself the majority of my life and I first-hand experienced the effects it can have on your day to day life. What began as a personal interest in skincare quickly evolved into a calling—I realized I wanted to create a space where people could not only improve their skin but also feel seen, safe, and genuinely cared for.
SKNMUSE offers customized facial treatments, holistic acne solutions, micro channeling, cyrotherapy with Glacial FX, and home care routines tailored to each client’s skin and lifestyle. I also retail skincare products that I truly believe in and have personally vetted. My goal is always to help clients feel empowered in their skin and educated about how to care for it long-term—not just when they’re on my treatment table.
What sets SKNMUSE apart is the level of personal attention and intention behind every treatment. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all skincare. Each session is thoughtful and designed around what your skin actually needs that day. Clients often tell me they look forward to their appointments because it feels like a reset—for their skin and their nervous system.
I’m most proud of the trust I’ve built with my clients. Whether they’re navigating breakouts, sensitivity, or just want a place to feel taken care of, it means a lot that they choose SKNMUSE over and over again. What I want people to know is that this isn’t just about glowing skin—it’s about building confidence, creating ritual, and honoring where you are in your skin journey.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
For me, it’s really about going back to the basics and trusting in the power of genuine client referrals. Personally, I only try new service providers when someone I trust recommends them—and I know I’m not alone in that. Most people don’t have the time (or desire) to bounce between providers, especially when it comes to self-care. They want someone reliable, skilled, and trusted by people in their circle.
So I apply that same mindset to my business. I focus on delivering an experience that’s so thoughtful and effective, clients naturally want to share it. Before I begin each service, I quietly say to myself: “Perform this service so well they’ll want to tell their friends.” That intention has guided everything and truly helped SKNMUSE grow in the most organic and meaningful way.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
The answer is simple: ethics. I won’t recommend a product unless I truly believe it will support the client’s skin, and I’ll never perform a service that their skin isn’t ready for or won’t benefit from. My clients know that I prioritize what’s right for them, not just what’s on the menu.
I also meet people where they are—physically, emotionally, and financially. That level of care builds trust. I want every client to feel seen, respected, and understood, and I think that’s what’s helped SKNMUSE build such a loyal and supportive community.
