Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Madelyn Morell. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Madelyn, appreciate you joining us today. Do you take vacations? Why or why not?

This is the one topic that is constantly brought up to me by my family, friends, and loved ones. What a lot of people don’t understand is that some of us really do love to work and do what we do instead of taking time off.

I think once you get into the grooves of working and trying to make all your goals happen its hard for you to allow a small or even big vacation happen.

Don’t get me wrong I love vacations and all the sleep that comes with them, but when you spend a large portion of your life hungry for growth and wealth, you’ll feel guilty when you’re just sitting around not working on those things that are going to get you there.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

My name is Madelyn Morell, I am a daughter, a sister, a friend, a dancer, a photographer, and an entrepreneur. My weekdays are spent at an aviation company that provides manufacturing and procurement for first tier defense contractors. On my free time I am busy running two of my own personal businesses. I am excited to create more but this is how my journey started.

I found a love for photography at a pretty early age thanks to a family friend who introduced me to Nikon cameras. I took that camera everywhere, it became habit to get as many angles as I could have of whatever subject I was focusing on. I took a photography class in high school that introduced me to the schools yearbook club so I joined immediately. Seeing my work in a book changed everything for me.

Dance was on the back burner but then came back out once I graduated so I was able to experience performing for music award shows and be a part of the Miami Heat Dance team, but I wanted more. I wanted something that was mine. I thought long and hard and started taking friends headshots and creative shots for myself. It wasn’t much longer that I started promoting on instagram and grew a new following for Maternity Sessions, Family Sessions, Events, etc.

I am not just providing a service of “taking photos” I am providing an environment, one where my client is stress free and feels confident. I want my clients to feel as comfortable as possible because I have spent plenty of time in front of that lens and I know how tense it makes someone.

But COVID did happen and now I couldn’t just have my 9-5 and photography business. I needed to do more so I started growing a hobby of raising monarch butterflies that in a two month span turned into a business plan.

Bookings got slow so I was able to grow my Butterfly Wishes business. The goal was for families to learn the process of a butterfly and spend some time away from all the tech stuff and touch a little part of natures gift.

My agenda is full like I like it but there is still room on this plate! I am having fun testing my limits and jumping these obstacles.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

When COVID hit I thought I would never take photos again. It was a big shock since things were going so well, but cancellations kicked in and I had to move quickly. I began promoting porch sessions so families would feel comfortable enough to get their photos taken but at the comfort of their homes. Surprisingly it worked and holidays went great! It was most definitely an eye opener so home sessions became more normal than outdoor sessions.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?

I think the pivot I had to make shows an important trait of resilience. You can’t let obstacles define your outcomes, you have to look at obstacles as learning steps and that is all, they can not prevent you from getting to your goal. I try extremely hard to find a solution to everything I do. I don’t let myself think I can’t make it happen, there is no other option but to make it happen and be as resourceful as I can.
